Computer Training: 9 Reasons It Has Become An Essential Life Skill

Take It Seriously!

In today's modern technological times, computer training is taken seriously, and is significant to virtually everyone on this small round rock in space. It doesn't matter if you are just starting a new job or a seasoned technology manager. It doesn't even matter if you are a long-retired person who is drinking mixed drinks, with little umbrellas in Florida. Computer training is something everyone needs and can do.

Computer Training Pervades Our Lives

Around this small world, computers are not just about basic word processing, and typing letters and sending e-mails. They are also not just for easily maintaining your basic finances, and doing taxes in QuickBooks. The PC, Mac-books, smartphones, etc. have invaded every aspect of our daily lives. In fact, one of the biggest threats to our national security, infrastructure, and our personal security is cyber-attacks and threats. This makes it essential to have basic computer training.

Computer training has become an absolute necessity to learn as a part of our life skills education. Computer training, in today's world, is no less essential than personal finance or home economics for early life skill education in the old days. These life skill education and lessons used to be commonplace in schools, typically in a person's high school years. Although based on experience with Millennials, the old school stuff needs back in the curriculum.

Knowledge in The Palm of Your Hands!

Computer Training Has No Experience Limits

Computer training comes in many forms and media. It can cover an extremely large number of topics and information. For instance, let's look at a few options available to the average user and even the “experts." People that have been using computers for many years still take an occasional computer training class. It helps them stay fresh and in tune with the constantly changing technology. Not to mention the terminology that creeps into our daily conversations, even when we are not talking about computers.

Computer Training Provides Freedom

Technology has given us a gift. It's no longer restricts us to brick, and mortar classrooms for education and learning. Students from grade school to university students are taking classes online. This trend only amplifies the importance of computer training starting as early in life as possible. That said, if you are of a generation or career field that did not afford you an opportunity to become acquainted with computers, like me, it is not too late and you’re not too old. In fact, you can start anytime.

Computer Training No Age Restrictions

Many senior citizen centers offer computer labs and training, as do local community colleges. Heck, you can probably ask your pimply-faced annoying kid, next door to give you some pointers. But before you do that, you may want to stop yelling at them to stay off your lawn. The point is that it is never too late to receive computer training. You do not have to be a rocket scientist to learn, not even close.

Knowledge at Your Finger Tips

Obviously, with computers, and the Internet, there is unlimited access to free and paid computer training resources on the world wide web. Just do a search on Google or YouTube. There is a secret little joke within the computer tech world that Google and YouTube are the most important tools a computer repair person can have.

Computer Training Providing Flexibility

Online learning allows the would-be student to learn at their own pace and absorb the knowledge in a way that suits their schedule and lifestyle. To top it off, it allows for mobility. A person doesn't have to be in a fixed location or even a building for that matter. In today's wireless world, and Internet of Things (IoT), you can sit down with a laptop, tablet or mobile device almost anywhere and have access to online training and resources for learning. Places like the city park, Starbucks, McDonald's and even workplaces have guest access for wireless.

Flexible Education!

Computer Training for Education Industry

Online computer training, heck, online learning is growing exponentially. It is especially growing in areas related to computer training and technology education. From grade school level through Doctorate programs, online learning is “the now, ” not the future. Even as I write this post, I am enrolled in an online Doctor of Technology program at Purdue University. Almost my entire course load for my Graduate studies was online as well.

Computer training and subjects related to technology topics are not the only lessons and classes provided online. Online learning is no longer a joke to the academic community. Almost all well-known universities have online programs now. They are no longer just catering to working adults, but younger students, some still in a high school taking an advanced college course. My son is a freshman in high school and does all his schooling online. He has homework, reading assignments, tests, and lives classes.

Everything is online. Not only that, the student doesn't have to wait until after class or school to go to a library or get on a computer to research at home. They can do it right then and there during class while everything is fresh in their minds. Subjects that range from English 1 to Physics and Chemistry. They even sent him a chemistry kit in the mail, so he can do experiments at home while logged into a live class session.

We are almost done. I promise, just stick with me a little longer.

Lower Cost for Providers

There are just a couple more things to point out about online learning and computer training. One of those things is that in many cases the price is much lower for online, and especially computer training, than for training in a brick and mortar facility.

It is cheaper for the training provider because there are little or no costs for large brick and mortar facilities. Usually they have a small office or several remote offices. No rent, mortgage, electric, gas, water or cleaning crews, etc..

Yes, the implementation and support of the technology to provide online training is a cost to consider. However, the servers that all this online education and computer training software sit on no longer require a company to have an IT staff, or it's own hardware. The servers and applications can be in the "cloud" (a.k.a. someone else's data center) or a small mini-mall office in Des Moines, Iowa. The cloud technology, especially Platform as a Service (PaaS) offered by several IT service providers has made all this possible.

Think about the students they can service online versus a geographically locked facility. A facility that would most only be feasible for the local population. With online learning, they now have access to an entire planet of students. More students, more revenue! Make sense?

A Diverse Professional and Student Resource Pool

Not only do they have access to the global population as a potential student pool, but educators too. The instructors, professors or teachers can be in Paris, Cairo, London, Rio De Janeiro and New York City. They can even be in small-town America with a population of 200 people. They can be anywhere, at any time if there is access to the Internet. Of course the same can be said about students as well.

In conclusion, computer training is accessible to anyone, at all levels, no matter their age, financial status or experience level. Resources abound for those seeking all forms and levels of computer training and knowledge.

So, get out there and do it. Stop making excuses. Computer training is in your grasp.

“Now I know and knowing is half the battle."
