3 Vital Steps Before You Fire an Employee - Passwords.jpg

Hey everybody,

Have you ever had to fire an employee? While you’ll probably be straight onto accounts to make sure the paychecks stop, take a sec to think about how & when you’ll revoke their passwords using 3 Vital Steps Before You Fire an Employee – Passwords.

It’s easy to forget in the post-firing relief, but that’s when your business is most at risk. Turns out, not everyone skips happily into the sunset - sometimes your ex-employee is plotting revenge. With their passwords still active, they can do anything they like!

Sure, not every ex-employee will hold a grudge, sometimes they’re nice people who are simply taking your files to a competitor. Either way, taking action to protect your business is a good idea.

While I’ve got you, I wanted to share this new ebook we’ve put together about ‘Digital Transformation: What’s in it for you?’Find out with this Free E-book. It no doubt sounds like another buzzword you’d only use to impress someone, but it’s actually a really big deal - and you’re already smack bang in the middle of it. The question now is...which direction will all this new technology take your business?

Have a read through, no doubt you’ll get some great ideas bubbling away that open up opportunities everywhere you look!

If you want to talk password management or digital transformation, give me a yell.

This is good advice. Having had to let an employee go on less than happy terms is not fun, and it is very important to make sure you have all password specific information protected as well as digital files.

Absolutely Carla!

Maintaining least previliege is a good model, group membership for accountability who is doing what if there's an audit. Local account passwords are really a pain. I hear there's a service to change it to a temporal password and has to be referenced by some method via web portal or smart key (two factor authentication, credential and something you know or have) and update answer files for deployment. I used to think it was humiliating to call security to get the ex-employee and escort them out, but this is also to protect intellectual property and prevent malicious intent, revoking credentials should be done before/during calling security. Depending on the business atmosphere it really needs to be expressed EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY, some work environments can be too relaxed and if this the case it should be handled preventively and not beat around the bush. Oh for sure. I mean, giving one or two people the keys to the kingdom is setting yourself up for issues, passwords and access aside.

Absolutely, in fact, as soon as it is known the employee is going to be let go.
