Fighting Gods

It's my kids 18th birthday today. Now you may ask "why are you posting on such a day?" and you might also ask "what has this to do with the title 'Fighting Gods'?"

When Gods fight in the sky

Well, from the early morning on they have had Well-wishers visiting us, mostly family. The answer to your first question would be "I take advantage of a little break while we wait for my niece who comes from Lower Austria to make some replies and a post".

She had to wait for the result of a Corona test she had to make because one of her colleagues was tested positive. Her test was negative, so she could head towards Carinthia. Today is her birthday too, so we will have 3 birthday kids at home today. Well, when you see this post it will be evening here and she will already be gone to her own family here in Carinthia.

The answer to the second question is a little different.
Yesterday evening I was on the mountain where I photographed the Golden Hour in the Mountains photos of my contribution to the @Qurator's Photo Quest "Golden Hour". I wished I had not been so much fixated on the setting sun, because the phenomenon to the right of the sun has certainly been much more intense a while before I took notice of it.

So, long story short, to me it looked like a brightly shining boomerang which was thrown on something that glowed like a rainbow when hit. "Fighting Gods" I thought, and since I love my kids like little gods and they have always been fighting, this is the answer to the second question.

God's Gold

God placed a gold mint in the sky-

Actually, such a phenomenon is called Halo, which is the name for a family of optical phenomena produced by light (typically from the Sun or Moon) interacting with ice crystals suspended in the atmosphere (Source: Halo - Wikipedia).
This special Halo is called Sun Dog or Mock Sun, which is a bright spot to one or both sides of the Sun (Source: Sun Dog - Wikipedia). This one was only to the right side of the setting sun.

Happy 18th birthday to your sweet daughter and her colleagues! Hope they had a fun time visiting Carinthia. Glad she tested negative for Coronavirus. Personally, I'm hoping either one of my tests comes back positive -- preferably positive for antibodies. I am so done with this Covid-19 crap! I have an elderly mother to help and a beautiful new granddaughter I'm dying to visit...

I think we have all enough of that virus and hope that everything turns "normal". I can only talk for Austria, but here it is all very confusing ... here you have to wear a mask but not there ... this border from/to Slovenia is closed, but not for everyone, so they drive a few kilometers further and cross the border via Italy ... people are confused and scared.

In the beginning there have been quite clear rules. Now almost every day something is different.

once I saw a Halo, too (it was a round, a circle type of, idk whats the exact name). the High Sky is full of different optical effects for us (unless you strongly believe in UFOs).
my baby b-day is coming very soon, too. she's a Lion/Virgo inbetween. more of a Lion, tho. three b-day kids at once -- thats amazing thing! I suspect the !BEER would be an excessive thing now... please keep it for tomorrow!

Yes, they come in different shapes. I have seen quite a view of these Halos, but this is only the second I have photographed yet.

We had three birthday kids at home yesterday, but my niece was yesterday exactly double as old as my kids.

Our youngsters have to observe curfew hours between 4am and 10pm making it very difficult for the matriculation year, (Grade 12) final year of high school, all having parties at this time of the year.

As long as one knows where they are and who they are with I never held the boys back for partying the night away, you only young once... she said remembering all the fun had!

The curfew hours for the kids here are a bit different, but I think the same as you do - as long as we knew where and with whom they were we didn't lock them up at home.

... now they are 18 and can/could do what they want 😉

A nice sun dog picture, Looking at the first image of the sun dog though, I can see the boomerang shape, but I also see a very happy wide opened mouth of joy with the sun dog crystals looking like tears of joy. For me seeing a full face is easy, just to the left of that face there appears to be a slightly smaller one with four eyes, strange looking but still it looks like a face to me with two eyes on each side with a tongue sticking out.
