More fun. Love the details and texture. But how'd you lose that 1/4c velocity, huh? (Nudge, poke) ;-)
(This is exactly why I have magic engines in my stories. No questions possible. "Where'd the energy come from?" "Who cares? Nobody knows how the drives work, you know.")
Hah! The same way I gained it.
It's one of the perks of not writing 'hard' sci-fi. Things just work ;)
I could go into a whole exposition on how contemporary ideas on drive technology are incompatible with long range space exploration etc. but it would be counter-productive. There's only one way to get from point A to point B in this universe without having your ship totalled by some wayward micro-meteorite at the raw end of light speed and, strangely enough, I have piece coming up that will explain it.
Looking forward to reading it. Relativistic micrometeorites are bad news. I once had a whole space opera plotted out with near-C propulsion, time dilation, and-you guessed it-weapons based on relativistic micrometeorites. Then I read Niven's Rammer stories and discovered that I'd been beaten to the finish line by about 25 years. Cest la vie.
You had my curiosity in part 1, now you have my attention. It's reminding me of the end of the rebooted BSG series, but as the human mind works, we look for the familiar, so I may be completely off and surprised later. Looking forward to reading how you play this out!

#writtenwithlove :)
This is developing along well. Interested to follow the story and see where it goes from here.
