The State Of Twitter & An Opportunity To Talk Hive.

I did my fair share of talking about Hive on Twitter to some users yesterday, (been doing that for a while now) but after Elon Musk announced the 6k and 600 view limits for verified and non-verified users I decided to take the opportunity to reach users who are panicking and trending the #RIPTWITTER hashtag, it was saddening to see these people panicking, the FUD have been crazy.

However, because of these changes, there has been a rejuvenated attempt by some hive users to jump on the trend and the attempt has been decent.

I mostly follow #hivekeychain and @theycallmedan, because they do great and comprehensive promotion, so I follow the thread, retweet, and quote tweets, to increase the reach and views of the original tweet. So I did this for 3 to 4 hours until I reached the view count limit

A lot of people on Twitter have threatened to quit, these same people did the same thing when Twitter blue tick became monetized, the view count has now been introduced and these same people are threatening to leave.

The truth is that even if Elon Musk decides that the view count will now be 100 per day and unverified users will no longer be able to tweet at all, these same people will only threaten to look for alternatives without actually looking for alternatives

this is because they've spent years building their followers, they lose the fame, and the money that comes with being influencers. But that's one thing web2 does. It creates the illusion that you cannot build somewhere else, just to keep you locked.

A lot of Twitter users with massive followers know that Twitter is gradually pulling the rug from underneath them, but they're just scared of leaving and influencing their followers to come too.

When Elon Musk took over Twitter months back, it was clear that massive monetization would happen, costs will be cut, the workload will be reduced, and the number of workers will be cut down, but people were focusing on free speech and not paying attention to the obvious.

It's true that the cost of running Twitter is high and runs into billions, it's also true that the man (Elon Musk) has introduced some cool things to Twitter but Jack Dorsey did it admirably well, the only difference is that the aim for Elon Musk is to make money, hence, the cost must be cut, so that those "loose money" will be profitable.

To be very honest, he is doing what he should do, I wonder why people are angry. You cannot make web2 into what it isn't, the core of web2 cannot change because web3 is on the horizon.

Some users/influencers think that web2 will bend over

......but no matter the changes that happen to web2 you cannot change the core framework and you still cannot own or truly have anything no matter how long it took you to build it.

It's important for people to understand that Twitter might be a completely different place in a year, squeezing harder and trying to milk profit from every corner.

Musk is trying hard to make everyone verified, but we know it's impossible to do that. The core numbers are the ones that are not verified, and there's a reason why they should remain like this.

Trying to get everyone verified will still create attempts at limiting what they can do, will turn Twitter into a social media for oligarchs, and soonest, the advertising will no longer favor the people who are ardent Twitter advertisers, because when the regular people can no longer reach more tweets due to view counts, how will the businesses of the people who pay money be potentially seen? Oh, it's possible; show more ads, to users and reduce the number of tweets they can see

The ordinary users are integral to the Twitter ecosystem

.....and if these people are forced out due to viewpoint, I cannot even begin to potentially imagine what might happen.

But as I said earlier, you cannot expect web2 to be different. It's important to keep telling people about the usability and applications that come with web3.

The SEC and BTC ETFs issues have temporarily lost traction, but still there are people who are genuinely looking to fill up their bag for the next run, it's possible to still reach these people individually; put the knowledge and idea in their faces, and leave the rest.

I stumbled upon the hashtag sometime back and wondered why it would be trending. I first thought they were haters trying to sabotage Elon as always but after checking deep, I saw the real news.

What people should understand is that Elon is a business man and as much as he might want to give back to the society, staying rich is on his top list. He knows what will happen when web3 comes around and wants to make money as fast as possible. Jack built twitter out of passion and when he saw his passion wasn't enough to sustain, he sold.

I just pity those that base their lively hood on twitter.

Lovely promotions on hive boss...

I also pity those who have built their blood and sweat on Twitter as well as establish their lifelong business there. Elon wants to cut cost of operation so that he can make more money for himself. It's true that Jack Dorsey built Twitter out of passion, they sold the platform to a man who is after money, it's a catastrophic transfer of management and ownership

That's the reality we live in now. But I am glad that META has decided to make life difficult for Twitter 🤣🤣🤣

Ten thousand downloads in 3days. That is a crazy and I will say planned move. If twitter doesn't act fast, people might eventually leave and if they take down their new rules, they will be projected weak.

What do you think??

I think even if people will leave, it wouldn't be a mass exodus, because one thing about migration in social media is that people are afraid of building from beginning. As for Elon, the greedy man will soon realize that the world doesn't revolve around Twitter

I guess he will learn his lesson though

I was discussing about this Twitter new development and a friend of mine laughed it over. To her she cannot understand or even imagine reading up to 600 posts a day so therefore she thought that the new development is of no consequence.

I also think that this is a good time to promote hive because people are looking for better alternatives.

If you put in about two hours to scroll on Twitter, trust me, you'll exceed this limit. 600 views is not much. Elon musk just wants people to pay to use Twitter, hence, all the limitations.

I also think that this is a good time to promote hive because people are looking for better alternatives.

Yeah, truth is, we actually need to collectively market what we have here.

Never liked that man, Elon. But he's a damned good business man, that's for sure. However, if he understood a half of what you're saying, maybe he would try another strategy. Because trying to get everyone verified, which is his aim like you said is setting Twitter up for a collision course. It just can't happen.
In the same vein, I hope the gospel of Hive can continue to be preached to the masses. Maybe they would see that the answer is right in front of them.

Well he knows what is up, just that he paid 44B$ for Twitter and he wants to make back his money. It's more of a business enterprise for him. But trying to get everyone to be verified is trying to make Twitter a platform of oligarchs. People will however choose to still remain no matter what. This is because they've built their lives there and means of income too. Talking about hive in the crucial time is important on Twitter

It's just that Musk is afraid that they will forget about him and reminds of himself with his crazy ideas :)
!PIZZA

It's more of business for him. I don't think the man has ever cared for fame to be very honest.

Interesting discussion. I have 4000 followers on Twitter. I grew the account to promote my sci-fi works. I occasionally use it because Twitter has no financial contribution to my budget.

Well, there are people who cannot do with Twitter. Their businesses are being built there, so it's probably why they're getting all sentimental about what's happening there.

Well, I guess the world of Web3 is beginning to see the light now. Elon will keep surprising people. He brought this yesterday, another today. What do we know will be another shocking update tomorrow? Hive should be known and people should see the new things happening in web3.

Well sadly, functionability is one of the ways to market web3 and we're still growing on that front. We need more applications. Imagine a dating app on web3, a betting app on web3 or even more decentralized gaming. These aspects will fully need to be tapped into. But we're getting there.

It's sad that people will struggle to leave Twitter and continue on the rat race of following that the people at the top decide on. Yesterday, it was paying to be verified, and today it's view count limites. There will only be more and more surprises in the future.

We collectively have to keep pushing the word of Hive out there, especially during this crucial moment. And, maybe, just maybe, some people would see the better environments and move in.

Elon Musk will continue to clampdown on Twitter, until be can maximize his profits, spend less on cost of operation and make more money. This has always been the goal. Make more money by all means. So it's not surprising. It's web2, web2ers will continue to put up with it.

To be honest, Twitter has been chaotic since the transfer of ownership. I really don't use twitter and even now I've lost appetite scrolling through my feeds because the algorithm is not just enticing.. even tweets by my followers is not shown properly again. I am already tired, I have no appetite to build there again.

It's tiring to build there and there's a risk that you might just lose everything. I only have Twitter just to promote hive and have never suffered or spent any money to build any Twitter following. I think the reason why they're not showing tweets by your followers is now because they are showing the tweets of people pay to be exclusive members of Twitter.

Twitter and Reddit are having lots of problems now. Good time for Hive to capitalize.

I heard about the issues with reddit, and to remember there was a time we on hive wanted so much to be like reddit

Good thinking, I did the same but was mainly talking about threads as it is more in line with what Twitter users are looking for. Regardless though, any time web2 Social media falters, we should be jumping in to show the alternatives.

Exactly, you're right, I think talking or proffering alternatives is the easier way for adoption, so basically threads is great, I think we just haven't pushed it enough. Many people are still yet to jump on Twitter and talk about threads

I think the ordinary users are indeed a core part of Twitter, trying to get them to verify could actually backfire on the platform. The fundamentals of web2 can't really be changed, that's how it was set up and meant to operate. Business, making profits is a top priority. It's really an opportunity for web3 social media to be put on the spot light, I think many will decide to join Hive if they give it a well enough thought and do their research.

It's better to unite in such situations and spread the words when we can... Elon coming up with rate limit gave us nice opportunity to talk about hive.

I came across plenty of people I follow talking about leaving twitter for other alternative and gave them reasons to join hive.. those tweets of mine got way more reach than usual one's.

The thing I noticed is people are leaving web2 for another Web 2 like den last tweet matrix to matrix. That's pretty crazy.

Gradually he is paving way for hive because when the herds are tired they look for the next alpha

I totally agree with princessbusayo. Hive should be know all round world.

Musk is trying to turn the financials in Twitter behind and I am not surprised by some of his decisions, but I don't think the current one was a good thing to do. Regardless of what Elon does, all of that data will get scrapped eventually. The most he can do is delay things and I don't think it's good for any social media platform to rate limit people.

If people have to sign in, then it's fine. If the limit is something a casual person won't reach normally, then that is fine (I don't think 500 or 1k is enough). Most of the social media sites are doing what they can to get people to stay. It just makes me wonder how bad the financials are there.

The way we see that the owner of Twitter is doing a lot of hard work and we all need to bring people to this platform where there is complete freedom to use and people to their hearts. He can do whatever he wants to do here.
