Takeshita Street, Harajuku Part 2 (Tokyo Budget Shopping Paradise)

in #japan6 years ago (edited)

After a yummy crepe, let's continue our walkabout down Takeshita Street...

IMG_8577.JPG

Opposite the crepes stores is Matsumoto KiYoshi, one of the leading drugstore/pharmacy chainstore in Japan, which sells a huge range of toiletries, cosmetics, counter medication and titbits etc. They are like a combination of our Watsons + Guardian Pharmacy + SASA, a 3-in-1 beauty/pharmacy/drugstore. Some stores are big with 2 to 3 levels.

Website: http://www.matsukiyo.co.jp/

JR Vacation says: It's always fun browsing through the huge collection of items in Matsumoto KiYoshi. Be prepared to spend a longggg time browsing through multi brands available in the Japanese cosmetic and toiletries market!

Further down the road, if you follow the trail of a nice savory aroma lingering in the air, it will lead you to the Calbee Plus store! All Calbee snacks fans would be especially delighted at not only the selection of calbee products in the store but also the sale of freshly-baked potatoes with soft served ice-cream!

JR Vacation says: Must try but be prepared to join a long queue! ?

Another brand of crepes store available along Takeshita Street is Santa Monica Crepes. Drool along with me at their menu available from the website below. ?

A 2nd Angel Crepes stall near to Santa Monica Crepes, which sells the same selection as the first stall, opposite to Marion Crepes. This stall is always strangely quieter with hardly any queue.

Straw sells cute ladies casual wear. As seen from the store brand logo, you can expect to find many blouses with graphic cat images.

JR Vacation says: Go go go for meow lovers.... ?

Liz Lisa is a Japanese fashion brand well-known for their lolita-styled clothes. The whole boutique is just so sweet! Their clothes are usually in pink, with flowery prints, ribbons, frills and lace. Note that the photos above are taken during Summer, featuring their Summer collection.

Website: https://www.lizlisa.com/
JR Vacation says: Their styles may be far too young and gu-niang for some, but they do sell nice sweet looking winter coats. I personally feel that Liz Lisa is the most expensive shop in Takeshita Street, with dresses usually priced above SGD150. If ytou like the style of clothes that they carry, you may like to visit the outlet store on level 2, which sells off-season items at a discounted price.

PERMS sells a wide selection of ladies casual wear over their two shops retail space. Their affordable pricing make it worthwhile to spend some time for hidden gems in this shop.

By its name, you can already guess that Cute Cube features kawaii (cute) brands and merchandise. This 4-storey building is especially popular among Sanrio fans where you can find Sanrio Vivitix on level 1, and two sanrio-themed cafes - Pompompurin Cafe and Patty & Jimmy Cafe on level 3. Fashion-goers can get their fix from UK fashion brand- Monki boutiques on level B1 and 1 or the Kyoto-origin "new and vintage-style Market" - Spinns on level 2. If having a crepe is too filling for you, you may like to try the Croquant Chou ZakuZaku on level 1 instead, which supplies high-quality fresh custard cream pastries made from Hokkaido milk.

JR Vacation says: How can any Sanrio fan miss this? ☺

The World Connection is a unique shop which features "characters" products that's suitable for the whole family! What's special is they sell a wide collection of Coca-Cola products as well as westernized characters products such as Disney characters and Universal studio characters.

JR Vacation says: This is a great souvenir place especially for teens and children!

aimerfeel is the second lingerie/ladies homewear shop at Takeshita Street and is also my favourite one in Japan! Similarly to Happy Hearts, amierfeel sells kawaii Japanese lingerie with lots of laces, frills and ribbons, in pastel colours and are heavily padded. ?
JR Vacation says: aimerfeel often runs collaboration with popular characters (for example sanrio characters, snoppy, Looney Tunes, Barbie etc) on their special theme homewear. This is one of the shops that I will certainly visit on every occasions to stock up on homewear.

PET PARADISE is an amazing pet-wear shop that dresses up your pets to be as fashionable as you are! ? The pet apparels are so kawaii that they are easily mistaken as children wear. Do note that the selection of apparel for bigger dogs are limited as Japanese usually keep small pets.

SoLaDo is a four storey building, which houses fashionable wears on level 1, used clothings on level B1, a food court - JOL Harajuku on level 2 (the only foodcourt in Takashita Street) and the popular dessert/sweet pastries buffet chain, SWEETS PARADISE on level 3.
SoLaDo is especially crowded where you can witness a long queue outside the building during their monthly events held in JOL Harajuku such as a fan club/ idol-meeting or pop group performances.

JR Vacation says: The place to go if you want to feel young and immerse yourself in the "Japanese Teens World." ?

Sevens Harajuku Takeshita is an interesting shop which sells merchandise such as T-shirts and handphone casings with an attitude. The designers play around with creative images and wordings that tease and mock at popular products, trends and characters in the market. For example, you will find a t-shirt with an image of Snow White smoking, the disney princesses looking fat, old and ugly, "Jackson's Baby Oil" (instead of Johnson's Baby Oil) etc. Most items are also price-tagged ending with 7 yen, (2777 yen, 1777 yen, 777 yen)

Website: http://ameblo.jp/sevens-takeshita/

JR Vacation says: Definitely a must-visit and you will be amused by the images and wordings of their products, at how creative yet sarcastic they can be! ?

IMG_8596.JPG

audrey sells fashionable clothes, bags and shoes and some items are very lowly priced. Worth a visit too.

~~~
JR Vacation says....
  • Takeshita Street is not fully sheltered so do bring an umbrella in case it rains!
  • Most shops accept credit card payments so no worries about not having enough cash.
  • Most shops open at 10am and are closed by 8pm so plan your shopping time carefully!
Yes it is very interesting! Do remember to give Takeshita Street a visit when you are in Tokyo next time!
“Most items are also price-tagged ending with 7 yen, (2777 yen, 1777 yen, 777 yen)” - hmm, the triple 7 reminds me of the slot machine XD
@jrvacation are we able to bargain when buying? Japan stuff not cheap. A simple t-shirt costs almost 2000yen (ie. 24SGD). A bit rich, IMHO. Hahahah
Unfortunately bargaining is not in their culture.... 😂
