Sweet Dreams - Page 72 of the cartoon about Phill from GCHQ - a free comic that I have been working on since September 2016.

Introduction to this weeks page

In the previous page something happened to Loretta, the 250 pound transsexual woman with a beard. It has been revealed earlier that he has had dreams that the other members of the small pagan society take very serious. It is first time mentioned on page 26.

If you look closely at page 23 you might find the identity of the Welsh corgi with the note around its neck. And yes, I got the idea about the note from Paddington the Bear. I watched one of the newly made films in the weekend with my youngest daughter.

The Aedes Machina Vacua is translatable (hopefully) to the temple of the Machine void. I am not entirely sure this is the right way to write it, but the Roman temple names I have seen is constructed like this: Aedes (or aedis) meaning a building, a house and then in nominative the name of the God. So Aedes Iuppiter means House Jupiter. So far so good. But I was also unsure how to translate machine void, as void can be a noun in English, but the word vacui is an adjective in Latin. So Aedes Machina Vacua Means: "house (of the) empty machine". Close enough I guess, but if anybody knows Latin and has a better suggestion let me know.

Two of the drawings I have made on the last two pages was paraphrased from memory of some old comics. I looked through my comics collection and when I found the original images it was very close indeed (so close that I borrowed a little detail and changed my own drawing.)

Here they are:

The wonderful character, Laureline from the comic Valerian et Laureline by Pierre Christin and Jean-Claude Mézières. It seems that there never came many English translations of this marvellous series (which quite frankly shocks me) - but this is from the album that inspired Luc Besson's feature film Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.

Really close i think. I was at least surprised how close I had come. I even changed Gwendolyn right arm to make it look like Laureline.

From the Italian cartoonist, Liberatore's ugly orgy in violence and sex: Ranxerox.

I didn't actually change anything after finding the Liberatore drawing, but I think they look a lot like each other.

Happy reading.

Sinclair! Now there's an ancient computer. I also noted from your footer links that you are are Linux and Open Source software user. You're looking rather nerdy computer user @katharsisdrill. ;-)
More of it I say. =)

Yes, somehow I sailed away on that galley a long time ago. Together with the fight for the rights of prostitutes, it has been the political fights I could manage.

Great page indeed and the insights about its creation is valuable as always. When I first saw the page it reminded me a lot of the surreal sequences in the "Blazing World" (or "Ideaspace") of Alan Moore's League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Also, the blending of religious environment (temple) & symbols (triple goddess) with totally out-of-place objects (spectrum!) is somehow similar to the hallucinations in the obscure comic "PREY".

I regret missing the first volume of your comic, as it would have introduced me to the "mythology" you use and I'd not have to constantly draw connections to other favorite comics -- but, hey, you do it too!

Btw, I love how hir brains spill out and into the dream, awesome depiction!

The whole comics is available here: Phill from GCHQ. I publish it as Creative Commons so it is free. When I started the comic I had no idea what it was supposed to be, so the ideas I had initially was very whimsical. For example was the thee Celtic Gods on the first page just a joke on the nature of the Western intelligence services both now and historically (in the cold war). Later I have respected the early decisions and tried to put it all together in a great puzzle. I have read up on what we know about Celtic mythology and mixed it with real history about the intelligence forces for example. It has actually become a major research project :)

That is exactly what I felt when I was making scenarios for role-playing games, several years ago -- mostly for NEPHILIM and Call of Cthulhu. At first, a character was abruptly mentioned, then I gradually fleshed him out, giving him proper background and a role in the grand scheme. I always researched a lot, and then... researched even more, to have historic accuracy and a realistic reasoning for his motives and plans. Then trying to blend the occult/fantasy environment with real-world conspiracies and events. Oh, the joy of learning through gaming...

Roleplaying plays a big part in how I have learned to create a story. The fact that you sometimes need to improvise in seconds, makes it easy when you have a whole week.

Down the rabbit hole! Very trippy page :-)
The Welsh corgi must be Gerome Beatty-Philpot then, right?
The frame, where Loretta is riding to London spontainously reminded me of that scene from Big Lebowski:

Also great to see, how the comics you've read, find their way into Phill.

Haha, spot on with the Lebowski analogue.

It is indeed Gerome -obviously also the man behind the Mr. P message.

With the images from Ranxerox and Valerian it was actually strange how close I came to the originals that I had on my inner eye. Sometimes my memory frightens even myself.

I am trying feverishly to find something to say about it other than "I love it" - damn, my brain just doesn't work well with words, lol

II know exactly what you mean. Often a drawing is easier for me than writing three lines.

Brilliant as usual. I'm trying to read a few things tonight but my introverted ways are taxed as we've had an American thanksgiving here in UK and guests just left...
Thus, I'm enjoying retreating to my room, sipping my hot tea and looking at your amazing art and it's influences.
It's funny how our favourite artists influence us. I adore Beardlsey and subsequently I often end up doing second rate versions of his black and white work, not even intentionally! I'm just drawn to the style :)

Did you eat pheasants?

I somehow know or should have known that you like Beardsley. I do too not surprisingly.

you're continuously amazing, @katharsisdrill <3 i love the drama in the last panel so much <3 ...

... and that opening panel is a mixture of wonderful surrealism and comic artistry <3 <3 <3

Thanks, It was fun to make. Often it takes most of my time to think out the text... that was not so bad with this one :)

Wonderfully surreal. I like seeing the Spectrum in there.

We will hear much more about that in the pages to follow.

Excellent content, thanks for sharing
