The reception room was a bit freezing but Roselyn felt hot and sweaty. She debated whether or not to take off her suit jacket but dismissed the idea. She was smartly dressed in a black stripe skirt suit for her job interview and did not want to mess it up.
She was nervous because of a haunting face from her past.
Her roommate just dropped her off at the parking lot when an Audi E-tron Quattro luxury car drove in smoothly. Roselyn could not explain why but felt she had to wait to see who steps out of the car.
The passenger's back door opened gently. A long, smooth-skinned leg in black Jimmy Choos shoes stuck out and followed by a slender, good looking Amanda Philips. Roselyn's nemesis from high school.
Roselyn gasped. Amanda turned, saw her and froze.
Time stood still for both ladies. Roselyn was taken back in time to high school where a group of rich, spoiled girls popularly called Bigz Gals harassed and bullied her. Amanda was one of them.
When Roselyn got home on one of those awful days, she made a fuss to her mother about changing schools because of the Bigz Gals clique in her school. Her mother held her in a bear hug and said, "Enemies are just friends in reverse."
Roselyn paled and turned to take the stairs when Amanda called out to her. "Rosie! Please wait."
"Don't call me that. My name is Roselyn." She bit out.
"Oh. I...um...it's been a long while. I did not expect to see you here." Amanda looked nervous. Roselyn stared at her for a moment, remembering her mother's words and the fact that high school was a long time ago, she calmed a bit.
"I'm here for an interview at Preslin Recycles. What are you here for?"
Amanda smiled. "Oh. I am the COO of Preslin Recycles and will be on the interview team this morning. Um, will that be okay for you?"
Roselyn wished the ground would crack open and swallow her up. Why did she not do a thorough investigation of the management team before applying? She mentally hit herself.
"Roselyn? Are you alright? You look pale." Amanda touched her shoulder gently. Roselyn blinked like she had zoned out.
"I won't delay you," Amanda whispered. "But before I go, for what it's worth, I've been living with guilt the past few years for the way I behaved in high school. Can you ever forgive me?"
Roselyn felt like her world had turned upside down. Why didn't she have a premonition or feeling of some sort that the day would turn out differently from other days? She thought, then realised Amanda was staring at her strangely, waiting for an answer.
Roselyn cleared her throat, turned and walked away from Amanda without so much as a word.
At the reception room, she berated herself over and over for not saying something. Now she would have to face Amanda, one of those who made high school an unpleasant time for her, in the interview. Maybe she should have forgiven her at the parking lot? Gosh. It was so hard. The meeting was unexpected.
Roselyn became more nervous. What if Amanda had not changed and influenced the team not to hire her? She wrung her sweaty palms together.
"Ms Roselyn?" Roselyn glanced up at the receptionist. "You may go in now."

Wonderful prose! The sentences are crisp and clean. Clear of clutter. This allows the scenes to move forward and flow into each other very well.
