I'm here to give you a sugar coated treat today that you're sure to enjoy, and I certainly cannot call it a healthy treat, but hey, we need to spoil ourselves now and then not so!
I did try to get a sugar alternative, but with limited stock of most everything in our stores, I could not find any alternative.
Loads of sweeteners in tablet form, but nothing else so my diabetic hubby had to be satisfied with a sugarless donut!
This all started with leftover Bran & Oats bread dough from a loaf of bread I made this morning. One bonus from Covid19 lockdown is homemade bread as I'm not keen on buying mass produced breads any longer.
I had gorgeous Granny Smith Apples and have been hankering for Apple Donuts.
Many many moons ago my very first dear old boss used to bring us treats once a month when he went for a haircut in the same shopping mall as a wonderful German bakery;)
Whenever he came back to the office with a new haircut, we all knew the box of pastries and other delicacies would be brought out for teatime.
I think I've told you all before that once I get a bee in my bonnet, there's no stopping me.
- Bread dough was rolled out thinly
- Circles of dough cut out
- Steamed cinnamon spiced apple cubes placed in centre
- Folded over and sides sealed by pinching edges
- Deep fried in a light canola oil till golden brown
- Placed on paper towel and then dipped in a sugar cinnamon mixture
As you can see I've been a very busy bee here in my little Hive at home;)
Time for a good cup of my favourite dark roast coffee and an Apple Donut!
Just one bite and I was in pure heaven - feather light texture and spicy apple filling with the crunchy spicy sugar coating took me right back in time to my first job!

These scrumptious looking apple donuts take me back to when my Dad used to make these for us for New Year's Day. It had been a tradition in his family and now it is a tradition in my family although I don't reserve them for just New Year's. My husband used to love for his birthday and my eldest son has carried on that tradition. Thank you for a lovely walk down memory lane @lizelle!

These look so good! Donuts are, seriously, one of my favorite things. Ever since I turned 40 even one bite gives me indigestion. Maybe I could handle them if they were cooked in the right oil? I'm not sure. When I worked my office job and biked to work there was a donut shop on my route and just the smell of them cooking would satisfy my craving.
Shop bought donuts do that to me as well but these were fine, but then I will not have it at night as that's a sure recipe for heartburn! They were divine!

Ohhhhhh. Those remind me of my youth. My Mom called those bear claws, no matter the filling. So these would be Apple Bear Claws. So incredibly tasty!

They were really delicious but if I made them too often I'd certainly end up carrying those donuts around:)

Oh goodness do these look delicious! Well, so does that bread! You should know by now I have an affinity for anything made with dough. ;) I love my German bakery, too. The bread and the beer--one of these days I'm going to make it there to visit...
I have a real weakness for any yeast bake, really miss some of our artisan bakeries but I don't like to venture too far from home yet with all these draconian rules! Lovely seeing you Katie;)
