"Dogs never bite me, only humans do"

(Marilyn Monroe)

Two years ago my rock star Madonna's light went out. She was a cute German Shepherd with beautiful eyes. My husband brought her in when she was a month old, and put her in my arms. I raised her indoors until she was four months old, then she lived in the garden.

People were always prying, telling me that her name was strange. According to them she had to be called something else. I liked her name because it gave her personality.

She was terrible, the terror of the street. No one dared to get away from the fence.

She practiced escapism and contortionism. She used to escape from any hole she could find. Since she was a little girl, she used to escape from where she was locked up. A fence was made for her and she jumped over it.

She escaped many times, and the neighbors ran like crazy. In one of those escapades we had to pay for an ice cream because a child was eating ice cream and she took it out of his hands and then sat very calmly to eat it.

I was terrified that she would bite someone in the street. When one friend was talking to me, she stuck her head through the bars and bit her. My friend had to be taken to the nearest clinic to get a tetanus shot.

She was old and tired, 16 years old when she left. She had a degenerative bone disease and her spine was broken.

She was always thin, fascinated by the rain and bathing. The only thing she ate was dog food, but she liked to eat sweets.

When Princess Leia was brought home, they had to be separated since she was a little girl. They fought if my son caressed any of them. They each had their own space in the garden.

My husband would hit them and pour cold water on them to separate them. However, when Madonna got sick, Princess Leia would not leave her side and would try to pick her up to make her stand up.

There are many reasons why dogs run away. I don't really know what was wrong with her, but as soon as she went out she came back in like it was nothing. It was funny to see my husband and son running after Madonna. Wow, to me she was bored at home.

Her last days were painful. She was given strong painkillers to ease her aches and pains. Until the vet said she had to be put to sleep because she was in so much pain.

Did you know?

Harry Houdini had a great ability to escape from confinement. He was very agile at picking locks and was a contortionist.

In his shows he escaped using tricks to open handcuffs, padlocks, among others.

I had a hard time making this post #Hivepest friends, I prefer to remember Madonna when she was nimble, quick and mischievous when trying to get away.

Goodbye.

Me despido.
