RE: Coronavirus kills -1 in Finland // Coronavirus mata a -1 en Finlandia

in #meme5 years ago

There have been memes circulating all over Finnish language social medias about this. Not about the White Death, though. Props!

What is the text meant to say?

I recognize the words "kommunisti", "virus", and "kesti".

The first two are self-explanatory. "Kesti" is the third person singular imperfect of the verb "kestää", which means to hold in this context.

There is no such word as "kuolta". A famous phrase "Kollaa kesti" exists. Kollaa is a placename. It's a village now in Russia, formerly in Finland. "Kollaa kesti" means Kollaa held. Battles raged in near Kollaa from the start of the war on November 30 1939 to the of it on March 13 1940. Simo Häyhä served in Kollaa as a sniper with about 500 confirmed kills until he was hit in the face by an exploding round. His chin was surgically reconstructed and he wanted to fight in the Continuation War between June 25 1941 and September 19 1944 but the military refused his petition.

Kollaa kestää,
kommunisti virus.

would be better, which is how I imagined it. Funny shit! :)
