Hi Steemmonsters-Hunters,

today I want to discuss with you some strategies on how to build your team for the upcoming Steemmonsters-Battles. Not only you have to decide with which Splinter / Element you want to fight, but also you may have to consider a lot of other important elements to build your Team effectively.

Thats why I want to help you with the first steps - on what to think about when you want to create your own team.

The first thing to consider is, how much Mana will be allowed to spent for creating a Team and to Battle. There will be different kinds of Tournaments and Battles with different levels of requirements in regards to the Mana Points that can be spent. You can find the Mana Cost of each card in the left upper corner.

  • For this Strategy-Guide I will consider a total Mana Cost of 20. That is the cost what most people are assuming for the first Tournaments and Battles that will take place.

  • Another important factor to know when it comes to your Monster Cards, is the Terminology in which we differentiate the cards.
    ->

  1. Summoner = This card is mandatory and responsible for summoning your Monsters. The Summoner can also provide your team with a boost in stats or decrease the stats of your enemy.

  2. Tank = This card usually sits at Position 1 and has a strong Attack / Armor and Health stats, but can only melee attack from Position 1 and no other Position.

  3. Range Attacker = This card usually sits in second row and can only Attack from there. If Range Attacker gets into first Position than he will not be able to attack anymore.

  4. Supporter = This card usually sits in second row and boosts your stats of your team or it can also decrease the stats of your enemies team.

Because all of the Monster Cards will be different - depending on their experience levels the abilities may also vary. Therefore, I want to talk about the cards as if they already have all abilities unlocked and most of their stats are improved to max Level. (All abilities are mostly unlocked at Level 5 or 6)

All common Monster Cards can level up to 10, Rare Cards to 8, Epic Cards to 6 and Legendary Cards to 4.

  • For further Information about the general rules go to the official Steemmonsters Announcement

  • If you like to find more information about the levels and abilities go and check this Spreadsheet

Ok, lets start to build our first Team. I will go with the Earth Element the Lyverians - ANUMUN.

Lyanna_Natura.png

  • Summoner: Lyanna Natura (Rare Card), Mana cost 3
The Summoner Lyanna Natura is mandatory to build your Team with the release of the Beta-cards we also have Xander Foxwood (Epic card). Lyanna is in my opinion the better option because of her boost of +1 to Health.

Flesh_Golem.png

  • Tank: Flesh Golem (Common Card), Mana cost 6 - Position 1
The Flesh Golem is a great card for a Tank. He has a lot of Health, moderate to strong attack, and two very good defensive abilities (Heal and Void). Void reduces the damage received from magic attack and Heal helps him to stay alive for a longer time. With 6 Mana cost he is not the cheapest card to choose, but a pretty good deal in regards to taking damage and causing attack damage.

Goblin_Sorcerer.png

  • Range Attacker: Goblin Sorcerer (Common Card), Mana cost 4 - Position 2
The Goblin Sorcerer in this Team provides us with the ability "Sneak" which allows him to attack the enemies second row. He causes low Magic damage, but he is a really fast card which gives him a high probability of attacking first and to also dodge enemies attacks as well. On top, he has also the ability "dodge" which gives him a extra boost to avoid enemy melee and range attack. His Mana cost is moderate with 4 Points.

Swamp_Thing.png

  • Supporter / Range Attacker: Swamp Thing (Epic Card), Mana cost 3 - Position 3
The Swamp Thing is a very effective Support Card and comes with three abilities at Level 5 (Slow, weaken and Void). Slow reduces all speed stats of the enemy and weaken reduces all attack stats of the enemy. Void again reduces the received magic attacks against him. He is also a range attacker with moderate to good Health, but very slow. With 3 Mana cost he should be on every Earths Team top list.

Earth_Elemental.png

  • Supporter / Range Attacker: Earth Elemental (Rare Card), Mana cost 3 - Position 4
The Earth Elemental is a Supporter Card and I think he is good in last position because of its ability to "Heal". He has good Health stats but is very slow and has low range attacks stats.
He will be attacked from enemies "sneaker" and "sniper" cards but I think he could survive a couple of rounds, because of its ability to "Heal".
Overall he is great to have on the Team since he only costs 3 Mana Points.

Now we have spent exactly 20 Mana Points for this Team and are perfectly prepared to throw this Team into Battle.

What do you guys think about this Team?

I'm looking forward to your comments and suggestions on what do you think could be better or changed.

Steemmonsters rocks, lets get the Battle started!

I have a question @masterthematrix. Most of the examples I've seen so far centre around fully levelled up teams. Will those of us with fewer cards still get a decent change do you think?

Will there be any battles for level 1 cards, for example?

Hi @gillianpearce that is a very good question and it all depends upon how @steemmonsters will design their Battle-matches in the Tournaments. Since the Tournaments will be played fully automatically the Battle-matching Engine should choose Enemies for you that fit your Monsters Level. Of course at some Point you have to face stronger players and probably will loose out, but the Point here is that your Monster Cards will gain Experience Points during the Tournament which increases your Level. The more experience Points you gather the more valueable your cards are and the higher chances you have to win the next Battle. I guess if you play consistently every daily-Battle and weekly Tournament you should be able to level up pretty fast over time!!!

the Battle-matching Engine should choose Enemies for you that fit your Monsters Level.

Ah. Thanks for that explanation @masterthematrix. I didn't know about this bit.

you should be able to level up pretty fast over time!!!

I read somewhere that someone had worked out that if you played a card every day it would still take a year to get it to maximum level. No idea what that was based on? 😁

I like the article and the team is one of the green's team best choices, the other is imo:

Front:

Minotaur warrior

Back:

Spirit of the forest - Swamp thing - Earth elemental

Cool thanks for your input! On which position would you place The Spirit of the Forest?

As second, backup for the tank.

Faszinierend, würde Mr. Spock sagen!
