Storm Dogs

There's a storm comin.

Remarked my old neighbor, The Jim as he leaned on his rake and looked up at the sky.

I looked to the sky too. It looked absolutely normal. In fact it looked quite nice, you could even see some blue which was astonishing for Scotland.

Aye.

I nodded sagely to impress The Jim as if I too had attained the wisdom of the ancients.

Ye can see it.

He said in his old and wise way.

Aye. Aye ye can.

I whistled softly, leaning on my own rake wishing I had a long piece of straw to be chewing. Or gloves. My hands were freezing. Not like The Jim who had hands like those leathery pigs ears that dogs chew.

And if ye cannae see it you can smell it.

He said with a grin finality.

Aye. Smell it.

I echoed, wishing that I could see and smell storms like some kind of storm dog.

One of our other neighbors, The Morven from a few houses down, walked by at that moment.

Ye smell it, Jim?

He barked like a grizzled old Alsatian tugging at someone's bacon underpants.

Aye, storm's comin.

Growled The Jim back.

God, look at these two. Two old storm dogs sniffing around the base of mother nature's tree for some villainous enemy dog piss.

Storm Dogs. The idea sung to me on a primal level. I rolled it around in my head, envisaging myself dressed in black leather with a cape, standing side by side with these two on some rooftop, sniffing for storms and howling at the night.

Woof!

I barked excitedly.

What did you say?

The two old men were looking at me as me as if I had just told them that one of the kids had ripped my knitting.

I cleared my throat and attempted to look old and grave before nodding at the sky.

Storm's comin.

Sort:

Ach, ye never can trust the weather. If she's playin' fair with blue skies and gentle breezes, it's just the calm before the storm. Don't let mother nature fool ye, for she's a fickle lady indeed!

Sage enough?

That was very sage! So sage it sounded bushy!! :0D

Can't smell petrichor or feel the change in air pressure? XD

Also I saw a unicorn in the clouds >_>

Can't sense a thing!!

Wahahaha!! A unicorn would be a fine thing to catch up there!! :0)

God, look at these two. Two old storm dogs sniffing around the base of mother nature's tree for some villainous enemy dog piss.

This cracked me up so much 🤣

As one of these mythical folks who labours under the delusion that I can smell the rain coming I can let you in on the secret... it smells like water 😉

A sneaky look at BBC weather and on the old phone allways helps as well.

Hahaha, water it is!!

I am a great believer in the power of the weather app on my phone :0D

Modern technology can be a wonderful thing but sometimes ya can't beat a bit of storm dog druidic wisdom.

Right, I'm off down the park to find some lay lines with me dowsing rods!

Hope you find some long lost good too!!!

I can feel em... it's the rheumatiz ya know. My knees start to throb about 3-4 hours before a storm.

I'm glad it's the knees that's throbbing!!

My dad used to always swear his foot did!

My feet are unreliable... I have neuropathy from diabetes. Weird pain- different every time. One time it will be like someone putting a cigarette out on my foot- every 15-30 seconds for hours at a time. Then it will be like someone sticking a needle in a toe, over and over again every few seconds. And then there's the visegrips where my toes get squashed.... never a dull moment!!!

Good grief, that is never a dull moment. Or at least, never a pain free moment. Worst when it is your feet as you have to use the damn things all the time!

Yeah... and somehow I forgot the ankle-drilling sensation. Mostly it hits at night while I'm trying to sleep. I'll wake up with a feeling like someone trying to drive a nail in my foot. I wake up like: What the fuck is going on???

A one eared storm dog for sure! Those must be true black clouds to be so dark, I guess you used some filtering on that?

I did a tad and I cheekily made an eye for the dog!!

Ah, so that is what I was smellin! Storm's commin...

Overhere, down the Nederish Lowlands, we already have had some pre-storm-winds. The awefull stinch it carried, like rotten fish, yech!

Time to close the hatches, wind's pickin up, tomorrow we know what the damage was...

You can smell it!!

Aye, it's coming alright! We can only batten down the hatches!!

Yes, it is horrible and it is commin in fast!

Lower the sails, anchor the ships and batten down them hatches!

Make it so!

I world love to sayengage! But I don't mean the storm!!!! :0D

Some of us have to use the Weather Channel.

It does tend to be a mite more reliable!!

Haha! You 'ole dog!!! They are raising you right!! :) I love this and so true. Those old codgers know what they be talking about.

Storm's Comin

!tip .20

They do!! They always know! The weather is magic right enough, do I'm assuming they havethe sight and something bads coming :0D

Do you know how a blind man seems to have a keener sense of smell or touch? Well, the old men have lost ummm... much, so this is nature's way of making it sort of balanced.

It's all I got, man. It's all I got.

Hahaha!! I can imagine their horror at the idea of having lost anything.

They will be coming for ya! ;0)

Yikes! And their one-eyed dog , I'm hoping

Lolz!! That's what they are calling it now!!

Hey @meesterboom, here is a little bit of BEER from @eii for you. Enjoy it!

Haha! Just get leathery old hands like The Jim and you won't ever need gloves again. Did the storm come?

It did!! Quite a strong one as well. Now my bloody garage is leaking. Grr!

So The Jim is the real thing! Sorry about the garage though. A man's work is never done!

I reckon he saw a weather forecast, hehe!
