Played around with some particle simulation today. I wanted to experiment with some different techniques for creating different types of motion, but in the process the particles create some nice shapes for stills and I thought I'd share a few.

The render engine I use(and love) Octane, is really good at creating organic looking bokeh. You can even stretch it to replicate an anamorphic lens although I'm not doing that here.

The way this sim was set up, the blue particles are emitted and once the cross a certain speed threshold they spawn the orange and yellow particles. Each set of particles are connected by lines that follow some simple rules about distance and maximum number of connections.
The motion is being driven by something called a velocity field that sort of acts like a gravitational field where you direct the force direction. The forces in that velocity field are being driven by a third set of particles that are invisible. and travelling around an invisible sphere in random directions, well not quite random, they're being driven by a noise field which is another force generator thingy. Here's what the motion ultimately looked like.

That's what I'm up to, hope you like. See you all in the next post.

It's very pretty, you could totally use that as a visual for anything to do with anything remotely internetty XD

The wibbly gif at the end is pretty mesmerising O_O

Thanks! Yea, it might as well be called the "Internet Effect" because you see it all over the place with stuff like that, and I like how the yellow/red particles get sort of spewed out of the blue ones, I thought that came out pretty interesting.
