Another week, Another look at the Bid Bot Experiment Stats

in #bidbots6 years ago

An interesting thing happened on the way to my examination of the Bid Bot experiment this week. The ever helpful @ginabot sent me a notice this morning that I was mentioned in This Post where @exan lists the top 250 most paid out accounts for the week.

There's me at #105. Now I am not sure how this is all organized, as I had more than three posts. I'm not sure how this list is put together, but whatever. Let's see how far I can climb.

Side note, I had to check out @amylee who appears at #106, but unfortunately it is not Amy Lee from Evanescence. That would have been super cool.

Anyway. Let's take a look at my second week of post rewards from Bid Bots.

So I didn't do as well this week as last. there were a couple of Bids I put in early and the final bids turned out to make the bids less profitable. I also sent in a bid to smartsteem which I had never used before, apparently there is a membership thing with that that dictates percentages of the vote. That was a losing bid.

I gained 27 new followers this week. The vast majority are plankton level users with the initial 15 SP and are actually probably drawing more curation reward out of the post than they are gaining me by having their votes.

This week I tried waiting 24 hours after each post before placing my bid, I thought I would give people the opportunity to upvote the posts before the bidbot vote and get some curation benefits. I did not see an uptick in standard user votes from this, so I will stop announcing when I am going to put in the bid to the bots.

So there you have it... Another week with the bid bots. I continue to learn and refine my methods, and will play with when the bids are placed. I'm less likely to use bots I am less familiar with, and stick to the ones I know and trust, regardless of the profitability calculator on steembottracker.

What do you think? This was a money losing week no matter how you slice it, so am I wasting my time? Or is there value to building a brand through the bots?

We'll see what the next week shall bring!

Hey Mike!

Sooooooo, math isn't my strong point... but don't you also need to remove the 25% curation rewards that the bidbots will earn from upvoting your articles... or did you do that already?

It's definitely a tricky balance... I've never quite understood why those big bids that come in at the last minute even happen... they've got the best chance of figuring out their ROI... and it seems those last minute bids are the ones that ruin the ROI for everyone, including themselves...

Have you looked at @megabot? It's smaller, but I don't think too many people know about it...

Thanks a lot for your great posting.

I wrote postings in English. English posting is difficult for me because I'm Korean. ^^
but I didn't earn lots of coin less than I had expected.
I found bid-bots are widely used in Steemit.

your posting helps me understand how to use bots. ^^;;

I just saw your article. One of the most informative I've read. I was about to give Steemit a rest because it seems the only way to get noticed is to use bots. Last week I think I lost money on every Bot I used. I am going to read up some more about using bots before I post anything more. Is everyone using bots ?

Not everyone is using them, but hey can prove effective for growing your account. find bots that typically generate some decent return, use steembottracker.com to know when to place your bids and when not to place bids because the profitability is down. It will take time to figure out what works for you, but it can be effective if you stick with it.
