I am a relatively new Crypto trader, only seriously looking at coins since probably sometime in December, though I had been accumulating a few assets prior to that, it was mostly shitcoins and long term positions in EOS. I only recently discovered coinlib.io thanks to a post from @aggroed talking about it, and have been tracking my coin portfolio for about 3 weeks. So some of the terminology and inner workings of the Crypto space are still new to me.
But when the market makes huge shifts like it did two days ago when South Korea authorities raided some exchanges to investigate tax evasion, I do take notice. Fortunately, my mentality is to buy and HODL, so I wasn't panic selling anything. My portfolio has more than recovered from that dip, in no small part thanks to #smartcoin shooting up to $1.33 as of this writing, and it being my single largest coin count in my portfolio.
But when the FUD takes on a satirical slant that is funny as hell but looks legit enough to catch the unwary off guard, it is time to share.

The thing about it is, like the Onion, it looks like a legitimate news story. I know people who are new in crypto that might even buy it as legitimate and panic sell. Don't be those people!

I'd say beware of fake news. In my opinion, the crypto community should 'embrace' FUD when it's real news, facts, etc. It happens very often that legitimate concerns on some coin are brought up and people just dismiss it as 'FUD'. As an investor, you should embrace information from multiple perspectives so you can make informed decisions! :)

No, it's fake news / satire. As I said, beware of fake news! :)
Sometimes FUD isn't FUD and instead just new information and common sense combined. Crypto and bitcoin have seen huge drops in the past and have not sustained price after spikes. Obviously there's no chance the quoted story is true but the other info coming out in recent days is cause for worry, and if you've just been trading since December you might want to look into some of the practices of exchanges like Bitfinex and their association with tether and how tether influences price on the majority of the major exchanges.
I did have an account on Bitfinex, but I let it go when they shut down US access. Probably a good call, though I was picking up EOS while it was cheap there. I am trying to learn as much as I can about the space, but there is so much to know. DYOR seems to be the best golden rule to figure out if the news is FUD or legit. That's a golden rule I can abide by.
But this silly story just needed to get some limelight. hahaha
Good call indeed. Ya individual due diligence is needed and sorely lacking amongst many which is part of why so many of the blatant pump and dumps have been so successful. Definitely one of the funnier reasons claimed for bitcoins inception, that's for sure.

Lamo hahaha omg. Really people will believe anything sometimes. The downs can be very scary if your not I a HODL mindset. We still are like well if we were traders we could have made some money on the movements but it is just to stressful trying to figure out the inconsistent movements. Only thing that is for sure it's it will go up and down. Pre Christmas was another great fall that had all the newbies in a tail spin. Hodl all the way.
