It's time for a Steem experiment. Trying new things is always a good idea right? So here is what I am planning to do.
I am spending at least the next week (maybe longer if the experiment is successful) sending a bid to @buildawhale of at least 10 Steem or SBD for one post every day. The funds being used for these bids, at least in the beginning, will come from my Power Down payouts and my current pending post payouts.
The general idea are these:
Do I garner more followers, or more people who decide to unfollow me due to my use of the bid bot?
In addition to point one, do more votes come in after the bid bot vote to increase the value of the post in question? I.e. does using the bid bot help me garner more or less votes as a whole.
Can using the Bid Bot create a self feeding loop, in which one can use the post payout from one bid bot payout to pay for the next bid bot bid while also building an account SP?
i.e. if a bid of $10 pays out at least 10 SBD plus the Steem Power portion of the payout, then you have a loopable event. That bid has bought the account more Steem Power and a new bid meaning that consistant use of the system in this way is an effective way to build an account's SP.
This last point is probably the most interesting one to me, as it could mean any account with a decent "starting stake" can build up their account on a daily basis through the use of bid bots.
Why Specifically am I using @buildawhale?
I feel it is necessary to restrict the bids to one Bot in order to have some sort of consistency in the experiment. I have spent my time in Steem watching @themarkymark build his bot and create the rules and ethics that his bot abide by. I am sure there are other Bot Owners out there who hold to some of the same principles, but I know that the general mission of @buildawhale aligns with my own views more than many, so if I am going to pick one bot to patronize, then it might as well be @buildawhale.
Results?
I'm not a big query builder or anything, so my results will be based on the eyeball test. Unless someone wants to step up and run some reports for me to give some context to the results a week from now.
I will be posting on various subjects, with various effort in the posts. There may be some memes thrown in, along with some reviews I have been writing for various events and attractions I visited in New York City a few weeks back, some crypto, and other various posts I may come up with over the course of the week. The bids will be placed at various times of the day as well. The only consistent pieces at this point are the bid of 10 Steem or SBD going to Buildawhale on 7 posts over the next 7 days.
Starting with this post. Let's see how the experiment goes shall we?!?!
Unfollowed.
Great minds, https://busy.org/@conradt/the-great-bid-bot-experiment
Awesome. I will come and check it out later!
Unfollowed you for using bidbots
(Not really, interesting idea - look forward to see how you get on with this)
You joke, but there will be some who do! Just you wait.
I'd be curious to see how this turns out. I predict you will will profit greatly, @buildawhale is a great service. Just work hard to make very high quality posts, I predict that those 10 SBD will propel your content into some amazing payouts. @ironshield
Yeah... im pretty sure thst the bidding and payout will prove profitable. But profitable enough to churn? Thats sort of the big question at the end of all of this.
Some of the posts will be high quality, others will be borderline shitposts, but all will be original work, nothing that should put me in jeopardy of being blacklisted.
I think the follower count is going to be a big part of this experiment. Do people abandon following me because of the bot usage? Or do i attract more attention?
It will be interesting for sure.
My guess is that you'll gain users. @ironshield
ooooo! good experiment!! can't wait to see the results!
I will be interested to see how it goes !
Will watch with interest. I was planning on doing a similar experiment. 😀
Go for it! Different people, different results. More data.
Plus the more people using the bots on decent content, the less shitposts get rewarded.
Great idea! Curious how that turns out.
