Potato Hack - Day 1

in #potato6 years ago

Like I said in an earlier post, I am preparing for a crash diet of only Potato for two weeks. This is the Potato hack or Potato Famine diet. It is how Penn Jillette and Kevin Smith both lost gobs of weight. We'll see what it can do for me!!

Day 1. And I am already cheating! I didn't think I was going to start until Wednesday or Thursday, so when I did the grocery shopping for the week, I bought enough Salmon for tonight for all of us. Salmon doesn't store well, so I am eating my share. 322 calories of Salmon is probably not going to kill me.

Here was breakfast...

I didn't have time to cook the potatoes yesterday, which is why I thought I would not be starting just yet. But then I looked up microwave baking, and it is easy enough to do. 3 minutes flip and 3 minutes and the potato turns out nice and soft. This plate represents two Russet Potatoes microwaved and then chopped up. I added Pepper, but for lunch I moved on to adding Adobo as my seasoning of choice. Unfortunately, the main ingredient of Adobo is Salt, so I will need to figure out another seasoning to use, Salt is considered a no-no on this diet. Allowable, but preferably avoided.

Breakfast was 1 pound of Potato, Lunch another 1 pound of potato. Each pound has about 347 calories. This puts my daily consumption at a little over 1000 calories, which should put me in pretty significant calorie deficit and begin weight loss. We'll see how that pans out.

Day One morning weigh in - 270.8 pounds.

We'll see how that number is affected in a couple of days!

Might I suggest pepper, or even better, dried red pepper.

Dried red pepper sounds like a good idea. I need to find some of that!!!

I looked into this diet as well once. I opted for a 21 day diet challenge instead. No animal products, no grains, no beans, no fun... I did eat potatoes.

Are you allowed on this diet to fry potatoes?

Anyway, good luck my friend, I myself lost about 20 -25 lbs in 21 days, I can't remember the exact amount.

I mean, there are no hard and fast rules, but to do it the way it is described in Penn's book is to not fry them. No use of oils, butter, salt, lard, any of the nasty stuff.

I have seen videos of people who fried them (French fries and or hash browns) and then complained because they ate all these potatoes and didn't lose any weight, so I am sticking to the basics. Boiled, baked and microbaked, mashed or twice baked. With a little pepper and adobo for now, although apparently there are some varieties of Mrs. Dash that are good without the added salt that Adobo has, so I will likely be trying those.

There is salt free Mrs dash, I use it and it's OK. Here's my salt free adobo like powder...

All equal parts. Onion powder, garlic powder, dried and powdered oregano (I use a coffee grinder) cumin, paprika (I like smoked paprika), and some kind of Chile pepper powder, Korean red Chile pepper is awesome.
