The Daily Five for December 11 - New Steemians You Should get to Know!

in #promo-steem6 years ago

Here are today's 5 brand new Steemians you should know about and check out!

If you missed the initial post and want to learn about the process I am using to select the daily five, please check out The First Post in the Series. In that post you will find the first five Steemians I chose, as well as the methods used to find them.

I hope you will help me welcome these Steemians to the Platform! If you would like to support this work, please click on some of the links below and visit new Steemians to make them welcome!!

Today's 5

Today's Top 5 is going to be a little different. I've got three very cool new Steemians to share with you, but then I have two that I want to share who already have a following! I found in my introduceyourself search a new Steemian with a Youtube Channel of 50k+ subscribers, and a Photographer whose work has had over 10 million views. So I think by our standards, they qualify as Steem Celebrity! But don't skip the first three! They are all great new additions to the platform!

So Let's get to it!

First up today I want to share a little music with you! Meet @cosmion, who was introduced to this site by his brother, a friend, and a wired.com article! Austin is "A Travel Professional by day, and a musician and dreamer by night". He has a story to tell about how he got here, and why it has taken him awhile to share his first post with us. But what I want to get to is his music. Go to his post and check out the link to Bandcamp, where you can listen to some of his music! I am listening to it as I type this, it is hard to explain, it almost feels like a mix of the gamer music of a good nintendo platform game from the 80's mixed with today's electro club scene. His username is also his musical pseudonym, and means "an act of the universe". Head on over and check out his sound! You won't regret it!

In fact, go start his album "Duodeciphonia" and come back to read the rest of this post the way I wrote it. Don't worry, I'll wait....

Oh good! You're back! I hope you are jamming along to some kicking beats as we move into Exploring a New World. In this second introduction we are going to meet @myriam, whose real life name is conveniently enough, Myriam. Myriam came to the United States for Graduate Studies in International Relations and Political Science. She's been a typist, secretary, translator, teacher, researcher and writer. But what she really wants to be is a war correspondent or investigative journalist. That's some dangerous dreaming! She believes that every step she has taken has been leading her to where she is now, and that's a good place to be. Go on over and welcome her to this brand new place, and show her she is on the right path!

Our third new Steemian today Asks What the F❤️k is Steemit?, and introduces herself as "Anne (for now). Is her name going to change? We don't really know! What we do know is that Anne figures she either has to ride the wave of this tsunami or drown. Anne learned about Steem from @freemanreporter and was given a task as part of her business accelerator course. She asks how much fun she can have, and if she will ever write another blog. Let's make sure she does write plenty more by giving her a warm welcome to the platform!

Photographs are amazing! Regardless of the camera, an old camera phone, or the latest in digital professional photography, sharing images can convey so much! Next I get to introduce Rob Downie who is going by the username @intrepidphotos. He asks Is steemit the new home of photography?. He Hopes so, and with great images like he shares with us, I am sure you will agree we do too! He has over twenty years in the field of, as he calls it, "Adventure travel photography", spanning over thirty countries! His images have been shared in National Geographic and Lonely Planet. 80,000 People follow his art across multiple social media platforms, and his photographs have been viewed tens of millions of times! He shares a brief glimpse of his work, and invites us to his personal website where we can view more. Make sure he knows how appreciated his art is, and give him a welcome and a follow!

So I cheated a little bit on the last introduction today. You see, @balkantech posted his Introduction Post to Twitter, which was resteemed by @stellabelle. When I saw the title "I have waited too long. Time to get Serious About Steem!". Of course I had to check him out! @balkantech is a "former tech blogger" but the former is because it is so hard to monetize a blog in this era. Let's prove to him that getting rewarded for blogging is a viable endeavor here on Steem! He currently has over 50k subscribers to his YouTube Channel, which he shares with us, but it is not in english, so be prepared! He's here to get the hang of Steemit because he misses blogging, and Steem offers a freedom he desires! Let's make sure to show him a good welcome, and encourage him to stick around! He promises a "real intro post soon!"

That's our list for December 11th. As a reminder, This is by no means an exhaustive list! There are loads of new Steemians who deserve to be checked out in the introduction posts. I encourage everyone to go and check some of the entries in this tag out for yourselves!

Thanks Mike. Appreciate you including me in the daily 5 ! All still new to me to just working out what is the best path forward on the platform. Rob

So I can offer a couple of suggestions for you!

First of all, getting out of your own blog and commenting on other people's posts is a great start! Unfortunately, no matter how good your content is, it won't get seen by a lot of people to start off with unless they are actively looking for you. By going to the trending page and checking out some of the influencers there, you can get an idea for who engages in their blog and responds to people who comment to them, and who doesn't. Engage with the people who are active in their comments. The more they see your name, the more likely they are to check out your blog.

People consistently make the mistake of link dropping in comments. "Come check out my post" sort of stuff. That is seen as begging for attention and is most often ignored. One thing about being a photographer with a rich portfolio, is that you could probably drop a photo in someone's comments that pertains to what is being discussed, and that would make people interested in checking out your blog. Just a thought there.

If you are open to using chat functionality, the Discord servers listed above are great open places to get to know some of your fellow Steemians in a more immediate fashion. There is also MSP/PAL which is up to (I think) 7000 members on their Discord server, you can find them by searching for @minnowsupport, or check out the posts from @aggroed who leads that merry band of Steemians.

Speaking as a Curie Curator who gets to nominate posts for a bg upvote from time to time, you are probably in a very unique position to share some stories and original photography that no one else can come up with. The problem for curators is that it can't be images that have either been published, or are too old. So what we are going to look for is something that is newly shared. It can be something that is on your personal website as well, but if it is, if it is older than a week old on your website, my particular curation guild can't give you a big upvote. If that doesn't make sense, please ask for clarification, as it feels like I defined what I am trying to say poorly. haha.

Mostly, be true to yourself, do what you love, but don't be afraid to go out and explore the community and share your thoughts in people's comments. I imagine the #photography tag would love to have you curating some of the posts in that area and letting people know your thoughts on their works from view with a professional eye!

I hope this helps some! Definitely ask questions. I am happy to help as much as I can!

Wow thanks for such a detailed response. All great suggestions. I understand what you mean about how fresh the posts are. Rob

Thank you! for the warm welcome and for introducing me to others.

You are absolutely welcome myriam! Welcome to the platform! Make yourself at home, and let us know if there is anything we can help with!

I accidentally got too excited and followed way too many people, so now I have to actively seek out your posts @mikepm74... which leads me down the path of introducing me to a whole heap of new people I want to follow.... I'm stuck in a cycle of awesomeness!

Thanks again for all your hard work over the past few days... I'm going to have to figure out how to best spent my time on Steemit, I spend so much time having great fun with the people I've already met that I've been neglecting the newbies...

Thanks Aussie... I am afraid you will not be excited by the news I shared in my latest post... The Daily Five is going to have to be revamped due to lack of time. I still fully intend to curate the introduceyourself tag, just not sure I will be able to write the digest in this current format moving forward.

I did see that... and my heart broke into many pieces as you could probably tell from the denial-heavy rambling, clutching at straws offers to help.... but help I will in any way I can.

Thanks Mike for another handy review! I checked out Rob's @intrepidphotos right away and was stunned! Following him already for more. I'll make sure to welcome new friends you presented here! :)

This post has received a 7.74 % upvote from @buildawhale thanks to: @mikepm74. Send at least 1 SBD to @buildawhale with a post link in the memo field for a portion of the next vote.
