Hello Hiveans,happy new month in advance.Hope you all are doing great? This is my first time participating in the Energy Refill contest and I really must say I find it interesting.The topic for this 20th round is "Look closely at the present you are building,it should resemble the future you you are dreaming of". A few things crossed my mind while writing this and I realized just how much I had been sticking to this topic all along. A big thanks to @enginewitty , @wesphilbin and SMILE Initiative @smi-le for bringing this up.
In life,we always have choices. And whatever our choices,they either make or mar us. We need to stay conscious of our path and choose wisely the things we want in life because whether we like it or not,the future is waiting just like an expectant mother to receive its past and present baby. So even while we are not seeing our future as it were, we ought to prepare for it by living right.
In my country, Nigeria,the story trending is that of a 21-year old Chidinma who allegedly murdered a 49-year old man whom she hung out with. According to her,the Man and her were under the influence of drugs and suddenly he became violent and she had to defend herself by killing him.
This story hits me differently because I kept thinking what if Chidinma were my sister,friend,cousin? This is a story of a girl who lost her way. It's obvious her future is uncertain as her image is so covered with dirt now. I mean,she is just 21 and she has herself entangled in all this. Many say her story doesn't add up.Some say she could be sentenced to life imprisonment. Others say she could be free after serving a few years in prison,that is,if only she has a good lawyer.
But the question is if any of these be possible,how safe will she be? Some perceive this murder case as premeditated. Will the deceased family let her be? The tertiary institution she attends have announced she can't be accepted back.Chidinma had probably seen that day as one of her normal days,not knowing what was in store for her. Or if this were all planned out,she probably had never thought it would end her up in this mess. Poor girl!
There are so many "Chidinmas" in today's world-LOST. They seek to enjoy life in whatever way so long it satisfies them now.They care less about their future. Sad that this Chidinma has to serve as the face for the unseen ones.
The poor girl also mentioned her parents got separated when she was only two. So she had long been lost. But also many have found themselves in her kind of situation or something far worse or similar but they made a choice. They choose to protect their future by doing the right things in their present. Imagine being asked by someone why you have not succeeded in life and your reply is "My Parents made me this way". No, that is no answer.Yes,our Parents could be part of the reason but should they really serve as an excuse? Whether we accept it or not,we know when something isn't right. We can tell a good thing from a bad one. And we can't keep blaming people for our failures. Not everyone who has made it today began smoothly. Some till date do not even know their root. But come to think of it,should that serve as an excuse? Learn to focus on results,rather than excuses.
Oh Milly we can never be careful enough!Yeah,but isn't it better to take little steps while sure you are doing the right thing? Also,the choices you make, will cost you.Are you ready for whatever consequence(s) that may surface?
Know your purpose and pursue it. Even though you can't see a clear picture of your future but you know you want to end at some place where you can create impact in many ways,then go after it with all you have got. People will advise you,show you how they think you should handle things but the ball is in your court.You make your choice.
None of us wants to leave earth and be tagged as "nobody" thereafter. So we all strive. Is there anything you have been holding back. You are afraid of starting that business,that project looks overwhelming,your spouse/lover and you do not seem compatible,you do not know how to go about getting that capital to start up that business,and all this kind of stuffs are just there on your table.Start somewhere.In the future,you will be glad you took that step.Do it afraid.If you lose,at least you tried.Then you would have carefully studied from your experience(s), the factors that resulted in that failure and seek other ways to succeed.It shouldn't be exactly what you picture.It could resemble it.
Forget about your past.How is your present going and how do you think your choices now will affect your future.? Look closely. Live life happily and intentionally. Relate with people nicely. Be that great mum,dad,sister,brother,colleague, husband,wife,lover,friend. And be careful the choices you make. Choose long-term satisfaction over short -term gratification and secure your future.

Keeping the focus is essential to be able to achieve our goals. It is just as you say, many times things are not as we want them to be, we feel that the future is getting out of control and we start to get depressed.

I understand your point of view and I share it, our family background does not define who we are. When we have the use of reason we can change patterns and upbringings learned in childhood. We just need to want to change and have the willpower to seek help and achieve it!
