Forest fire

in Wednesday Walk15 hours ago

Oh, so it's Wednesday today? Doesn't that mean it's time for a... Wednesday walk? Yes, yes, and for a somewhat unplanned walk that happened a couple of weeks ago exactly on the day that is in the middle of the week - Wednesday. On that same day, more precisely, that same evening when we arrived home, I wanted to write a post, but apart from uploading these photos in the draft, I didn't get any further. Maybe today is the time for that, because we are in the same place again, so I remembered this unfinished post.

So, we were on the mountain, at the spring from where we always bring water. Although we live a bit far away now, when we are in this region and have time we like to come here and spend some time in the greenery and freshness that comes from these mountains.

Not far from that source of "ours", Font del Moli, there is another source that we wanted to walk to and explore that day. On the map I took a picture of, you can see it under the name Font del Pi.

While we were still filling water into our bottles, everything was calm and fine until the moment we saw the first helicopter that flew over our heads. Maybe that first one wasn't a signal for alarm, but seeing the next helicopter hinted to us that something was happening... Fire, I thought. And indeed, we soon saw smoke and that's where the trip and the planned walk at the spring ended. Meh... and we wanted to go to another source as well...

In the evening, my son sent me a link with the news that this forest fire was fortunately put out by the firefighters during the afternoon, and the place where it happened was the source of Font del Pi, exactly where we wanted to hike to. It's a good thing that we didn't stay there because we would have found ourselves right in the fire that broke out at that moment while we were at the Font del Moli.

Since we left our plan of a longer excursion due to these obvious reasons, and I still had time, we stopped at a small and boring park in the town of La Nucia.

The park as a park is nothing special... a few paths, benches, flowers and trees.

The only interesting thing that greeted us there was the game of some cute creatures. Can you even see her? She camouflaged herself.

We spotted it as something flew from one tree to the other. Crazy squirrel! I followed that one squirrel to the trunk of this big tree.

Something was not clear to me. How come I saw her on the other side of the tree a few seconds ago?

It turned out that they were actually two squirrels and not that I was seeing double.

The two squirrels continued their game, and we also went for a walk through a small forest not far from the park.

I know that it was not a planned walk on the mountain and where there is not so much greenery, but the view was not so bad, after all.

The city basked in the early afternoon sun as we tried to find our way back to the parked car.

Oops, where did we go? In someone's yard, haha. We followed a small irrigation canal and made it back to the park.

Today, after visiting the spring, we will not stop in the park, but I assume that the squirrels are still there somewhere, jumping from one tree to another.

Lucky you got away in time from the fire , we don't see squirels that often anymore here in Holland, in 2014 there was an outbreak with Toxoplasmose that killed a lot of them. !PIMP

Yeah, it was best to leave that area, for our safety, but also to leave the aerial firefighters to do their work. Oh, poor squirrels in Holland! 😐

Such a lovely and relaxing walk. Beautiful flowers as well. Haven’t seen squirrels in real life hope to see one in the future.☺️

They are cute, but they also like to argue among themselves and chase each other in the trees 😆

Yikes, that is scary! You really dodged a bullet there! I'm glad you were able to stay safe.

As the temperatures go up, the risk of having forest fires is greater as well. Luckily, they spotted it on time and acted quickly!

Good afternoon @mipiano, thank goodness the firefighters were able to control the fire, and thank goodness you weren't there. The "boring" walk seemed like a good alternative, and it wasn't as boring as I thought. The two squirrels kept me entertained for a while, and the views were nice. So thank you very much for sharing this unpaved walk. 😊

Big hug, 🤗 Happy Wednesday!

Good evening @enraizar. Good that the fire was put out during the afternoon, the helicopters and a plane came quickly. Sometimes the forest fires spread, and then it is a fight for several days, with so much damage to nature. Today we went to see the other spring, so I saw the burnt trees; luckily, not a very big area was affected.

Boring or not, it was at least a little bit of a walk. Yes, unpaved ;)

Thank you 😇

Good evening @mipiano, I’m going to bed feeling relieved to know that the fire didn’t cause too much damage to the natural world.

I hope you have a lovely Thursday and sweet dreams. 🤗😴

This mountain adventure is so, so cool!!! I love it, and I especially love the expression on this beautiful squirrel's face!!!!

image.png

Hahaha, that expression is hilarious, right? 😆

It reminded me that two weeks ago I went hiking and saw one running!!! It was a forest park, but I couldn't even take a picture of it,they're so funny!😆

I get my natural spring water from natural sources that come from between the mountains. It's unfortunate that the fire broke out. It's even more upsetting that such beautiful hiking areas burned down, but this has brought you a different option and an unexpected surprise. We don't see squirrels very often in the wild. The moment we see them, they disappear immediately. You saw them both climbing trees and even playing. What a wonderful surprise!

It indeed is upsetting that forest fires happen. Luckily, this was a small one so it was put out in some hours.

The play of the squirrel is always fun 😄
