If only I could show you what I see and hear right now... It is a sunny, beautiful day and all the balcony doors are wide open. The heat enters the apartment as well as the sounds from our neighbour's balcony. Musical sounds, just to clarify it. So, that neighbour has a parrot that is always on the terrace, although once I saw it on the shoulder of the neighbour, on the street. The parrot and his owner probably like this climate as they moved here from The Netherlands to enjoy the sun and mild winters.
Sometimes we hear whistling of simple but also complicated tunes like the National Anthem of France, La Marseillaise. However, my husband and I have different theories about who is whistling actually. He says it's a neighbour and not the parrot. I claim it's the parrot, but I've never proven it.
Until now!
Ta-da!! That moment arrived. I can prove to him today that parrots can learn stuff, like acting, doing sports, matching shapes and colours, singing and playing a musical instrument. Oh yes, that is what I see in the photos that I bring now for this #Throwback-Thursday post. But let's start from the beginning.
My son was five years old. With our friends and their little daughter, we went to a zoo. I am not a huge fan of these parks, as these animals don't live in their natural habitat. Of course, the vets and those who are in charge of looking after the animals do great work. Our friend is also a marine biologist so he was taking care of marine animals in this same zoo before he moved to another city, to a bigger centre. He has a great passion for what he does and always talks about the animals with much respect and love. Each person who works there has much responsibility, in taking care of, feeding and also teaching some animals, like it happens with parrots.
There was a parrot show that we watched with our little ones. I repeat, my son was five years old so the performance was suitable for them. Two ladies hosted the show and guided the parrots, and probably they trained the parrots to do the whole performance.
The parrots here acted, according to the story. The evil lady came and one of the parrots "ate" the poisoned apple. Now we were worried, about what would happen, who would save the Blue-and-yellow macaw? Do you see him lying on his back?
The other lady talked to the audience holding another Ara in her hand. What will they do to save the poisoned friend? The children shouted the ideas: save him and call the doctor.
Great, here comes an ambulance car!! Quickly, quickly, come and save your parrot friend.
The show covered other different stories too. Also, the parrots played basketball and drove a scooter, they solved logical problems, as well as recognised shapes and colours.
But it was not all. Here comes the part that will help me convince my husband that parrots can sing and play musical instruments.
This red Ara was playing the piano.
He had a little white piano, suitable for him. I behaved well and I didn't go to the stage to play the piano with him, it was his show now. He even bowed at the end of his recital.
This happened a long time ago. I don't know whether this show still exists or not, and do these parrots still perform? Maybe I should ask my neighbour to teach his parrot to play the piano too, and not just to whistle the tune of La Marseillaise 😉

jajaja... increíble and magic! we have so much to learn from animal... they are more intelligent than we think
🎶🎶
Of course, these parrots were trained and it was just pretending to play the piano for the show, but still, they have this capacity to learn. 🥳
That looks like a great experience! I love animals and I agree with you about zoo, but getting to see an animal is honestly always great
Especially for children it is important to be close to the animals, right? 🌞
I am not sure if @pipiczech still checks her account once in a while, but if so, this is something she needs to read :))
I guess parrots could live quite long when they are well-kept, almost as long as a human. So they can actully still star the show :)
They can live long, that's true. So I joke with my husband that he will have to listen to our neighbour's parrot still for a long, long time 😂
Or until we move 😂
I thought you had a cat ;) There could be a little incident, can't there?
Ow, a little accident, you say?
🤔
😂
You know, nature calls every now and then ;)
Wow! I didn't know that the parrots could perform like that, that's amazing! 🦜🦜🦜
Well, they were trained 😉
I had a parrot when I was a child, I also trained it 🥳🎶
Did it perform too? 😱
Hahaha, it used to give me kisses. An eat the doors and any wooden decoration on the walls 😂
Jajjajaj 😂😂
Or just it asks for cookies! 🤣🤣
Oh, yes, he knew to say to me "kiss" in my native language ✨
🦜👌
Ha, ha, ha, ha. Didn't know you had a neighbor with a parrot in La Resistance.
That's an adorable show. I haven't seen anything like and the retelling makes me wish I was there to witness all the thing. A macaw playing the piano. What did it play?
It seems that he is 😂😂
Or the owner :p
Yo qué sé ya, jajaja, esto hace 12 años 😂 quizás Rachmaninoff 😋
Ha, ha, ha, ha. True.
Bueno, eso es cierto.😂
Yes it must have been a good experience, I have a logo and he already learned to whistle and say some names, it amazes me how animals have the ability to learn and many times we see them as simple animals and that's it, but when we discover everything they can do we fall more in love with them, my parrot is part of the family, and he always likes to be on my shoulder and also laughs out loud.
Nice to hear that you have a parrot that is already like a family member and that he laughs out loud 😋
My one lived for 21 years... I got him when I was 7 years old.
Hahaha... La Marseillaise. I think this is going very well, you are already expanding as a teacher into other areas... I look forward to seeing in Hive your first piano lesson to the parrot neighbor.
🤭
Do you think that mipiano collects piano students?
😂
😅 Ya lo tuyo es insano.
Hahaha, expanding as a piano teacher 😂😂😂
Better he stays just with whistling La Marseillaise 😂
it is being difficult to accomplish the task of posting today.... 3speak is slow. 😭 Deséame suerte.
Suerte! But my husband is also trying to upload something to 3speak, already for some hours and no luck... 😓
😧
Surely parrots can repeat sounds and words, I've seen that too.
The memory you relate to here brought back a memory for me too... Some of my friends, who formed a rock band, were invited in 1990 to play in Paris. It was just after the Romanian Revolution in 1989. At that time, Romania was on a great way, i.e., foreigners admired it. For the first time in the West, one of the band members, an animal lover, chose to visit a pet and accessories shop. When he arrived in the bird area, the parrot area, he was surprised to hear, without seeing him, a parrot repeating a licentious Romanian word. He searched the whole shop to find that parrot... and found, in a corner, his colleague who was trying to teach the parrot that infamous Romanian word!
Yes, they can :)
Hahaha, why it is always so tempting to teach a parrot some not-really nice words? 😅 I hope that the bird in the shop didn't learn it in the end 😁
I never asked myself this question before... and I can't find a smart answer now.
He failed to learn that word, I think it takes a lot of time and effort to learn it. Especially since for the parrot that word made no sense.
You founded a parrot competitor! Animals are much smarter than people usually think. We can learn a lot from them. 😁
They are! Maybe animals just pretend we humans know more 😂
Hahaha I am sure they do! 🤣
I can't get over this post, OMG, I love every single picture. I love birds, I adore them and seeing these photos filled me with emotion with how beautiful they are, what a beauty by God (sorry for the emotion 😂 haha)
The white mini piano and the parrot playing it is a beauty, the other one driving an ambulance, I died of love ❤️❤️
This post is without a doubt the best I have seen today 😍 I would have loved to see that show and those performances haha but I can feel them through your writing.
Little Owl, I knew you would love these birds, your relatives :))) <3
That parrot indeed had the white mini piano, but look how cute this is.
The musician is excellent, he finds short videos and makes music and video clips upon them. But without the little parakeet, this video would not have happened :))
Oh my life, that parakeet 😍 this video that you showed me made my day haha, the song is super contagious, how brilliant. And at the end another one appears dancing hahaha I can't, it's too cool 😂😂 thank you for sharing.
That parrot playing the piano stole my heart, how cute!!!! The photos are super cool and the place is crazy beautiful, the birds are wonderful .... I already imagined you playing next to the parrot .... you felt like it?
Beautiful memory that will never be erased!❤️
Well, I just let the parrot enjoy his 5 minutes, I didn't want to steal the show hahaha 😂
I imagined you were tempted to go up and join him.🤣
I behaved. 😂
🤣🤣🤣
The scenery, your wardrobe and the parrot, everything complements each other very well, remembering is living twice, plus you look divine in these photos.
Oh, I am not in the photos. I was in the audience, with my son, and from there took the pictures ;)
Oh the young lady with the parrot in her hand looked like your profile picture hahaha I am definitely very blind.
Children love to see and hear such stories and they always say that such things and what we see and it's good it sharpens the children's mind and in the future. We see that children succeed by working hard in a very good way.
I finally arrived, and it's almost Saturday 😅 but I felt really bad. Friend, I don't like parrots very much, it is a very scandalous animal for me hahahaha, but I recognize their great abilities to learn things and in fact I think I have had bad experiences with the ones at home when I was little. Your post has shown me that they can do much more than just talk and whistle, seeing that parrot lying on its back was very nice, in fact I see that they are great actors. What I do confess is that I have favoritism for those blue parrots, they are beautiful and not a normal color in nature. Here in Caracas they go up to the balcony windows to ask people for food, I really like that. What a nice memory you share in your #tbt.
And I finally arrived to respond here? Omg, Jesus, 6 days, and I am coming just now (to be honest, I forgot to come back to this post 😱)
Wow, you have those blue ones living in the streets and they come to the windows?
In Spain, there are also parrots living in the cities, in parks, but not these Aras. I hope your concert is going awesomely well 🥂
