Sometimes when I encounter hoverflies like this and I see them sitting still, they almost look like plastic bugs; they have a bit of a perfect sheen to them, and they almost seem unreal. Then, when they start to move, it's a snap back to reality. They seem to stay for longer still than other pollinators I encounter. This one held for several minutes before moving ever so slightly.
