Buyers remorse - Cognitive dissonance - Opportunity costs

in #dtube5 years ago (edited)

Since buying this Harley Benton guitar and confirmed it is on it's way. I have been having a touch of buyers remorse. This is a common feeling that many people experience when buying anything.

In my case it is a guitar but the feelings can happen even at the lowest level of purchasing anything...even a simple sandwich.

Buyers remorse is an example of cognitive dissonance which is a psychological issue created by conflicting views. It can be experienced when buying products amongst many other things in life.

I hope you don't regret it once you get it. At least with this guitar you are only looking at the price of a couple of weeks food shopping or filling up the car a few times. With something like a Gibson it would be a different matter. I generally don't rush into big purchases and haven't had too many regrets. The scary ones tend to be things like cars.

As I explained in the video. I thoroughly researched the company and products. (Due diligence).

This was more to do with the process we all go through when contemplating the 'value' of something...anything. Steem for example.

The games the mind plays when trying to reach a decision.

Basically it comes down to.

Do I value the money over this guitar?

The answer is that the guitar has more utility 'to me' long term than the money I exchanged it for.

I was going to sell some steem but decided that steem has more value to me than fiat long term.

So I spent the fiat and lucky I did too. Sterling is falling against the euro!

Welcome to Brexit! 😋

PS there is a 30 day money back guarantee if it sucks!

Human nature is really funny. I always enjoy exploring how we are wired and always admired those that could poke fun at it like Mark Twain and Benjamin Franklin.

Yes as far as opportunity cost, I am weighing buying a gimbal so I can move in my vids with them still being smooth or buying a drone...nearly the same money..

I really enjoyed this vid, my friend.

Agreed a life unexamined isn't much of a life at all. I love learning what makes us tick. 👍

I've got a gimbal and rarely use it to be honest and you know my drone ended up in the lake 😂

If I were to get something now. I'd go with the drone.

They have come on so much recently and you can even get drones that will follow you on auto pilot. How cool is that?

That my friend would be a perfect solution.

Glad you enjoyed the video. It gave me a giggle too.

Buyers remorse until it arrives and you're playing it on your favorite amp.

Haha exactly, I have been cracking up laughing at this whole thing. I haven't had so much fun in ages.

Your balance is below $0.3. Your account is running low and should be replenished. You have roughly 10 more @dustsweeper votes. Check out the Dustsweeper FAQ here: https://steemit.com/dustsweeper/@dustsweeper/dustsweeper-faq

@Dtube is so much faster to use now. I just shared my link from my YouTube channel and it pulled in all the text as well. Well done D.tube this place is rocking. Thanks for this really helpful advice @adetorrent it is a great time saver.

It's a game changer. And now your videos are permanently up, until YouTube decides you're a radical musician extremist or something :)

Haha yes exactly. So much quicker to get things done. Thanks for all your help Ade. It is very much appreciated.

YouTube is having some growing pains it would appear?

until YouTube decides you're a radical musician extremist or something :)

My guitar playing is a little bit extreme sometimes! lol

I've had real issues uploading to dtube recently and so I'm wondering whether to continue using it. YouTube just works, despite having ethical and other issues

Yep it still has it's moments but it seems more stable this week so far.

You can just add the YouTube link which is easier but as you mentioned comes with it's own unethical baggage.

Oh? Why the remorse? An impulsive buy?😊

Anyway, too late now. Just don't think about it. You might realize later that it is a great buy. 😊

Haha did you watch the video yet? This was so weird to expereince after all my research into this guitar that I thought it would be funny for people to learn a little bit about the whole psychological process behind our choices and these odd regrets that pop into our heads.

I haven't got buyers remorse but it crossed my mind and made me really thing about the whole thing.
Let me know what you think of the video. I hope it gives you a giggle.

PS there is a 30 day money back guarantee of course 😊

I just watched the video. Ok, I understand a bit more on your 'experience' of cognitive dissonance.

Good to hear you are not having buyers remorse. 😊 And if you do regret it later, there is the money back guarantee. 😀

Of course and thank you for taking the time to watch the video 👍

I rarely feel buyer remorse, much more often - traveler remorse, lol. Of course, it is also a service that I buy, and I can't escape it. The biggest value of my vacations or travels is emotional. How much I enjoyed it.
And always, when I come home and tell my stories to friends or mates, many of them like to ask - how much it all costs? And every time the question itself is like saying "you are a spender". But now, I never calculate totals, and I can honestly reply - "Oh, I don't remember", and it is true )) Although, I know what is good price for me for every separate item :)

Great post, it makes me reflecting...

Haha yes this is the point. People often ask about the price rather than the value of something whether it be a guitar or travelling.

The joy, memories and experiences that we get from these things is the true value not the 'price'.

The price is just a signal to us to decide what 'we' find valuable.

Money on it's own cannot give you joy or a good experience. It is only when we exchange one item for another that we make the choice of what we find truly valuable.

Great story @zirochka thanks for sharing your expereinces.

With my pleasure :) And thank YOU too
