Crane Fly up close

in #busy5 years ago (edited)

It's another #sublimesunday. This tag was created by @c0ff33a and is an opportunity to post something a bit different, wacky, crazy or whatever takes your fancy.

This post is also my submission for #beautifulsunday curated by @ace108 and it is a photo with a #funkyedit curated by @krazypoet as it has an extreme white saturation which was a complete fluke.

I took this photo of a Crane Fly that decided to take a rest on my living room wall. Not wishing to miss the chance to get a photo for the #dailyinsectsphotography - initiated by @bonp I leaped into action and grabbed my Camera and started shooting away fumbling with my settings as I tried to get 'the shot'

This was the result below. Out of several photos this was the best. I liked the fine detail in the image.

Crane Fly

I know a lot of people get squeamish looking at bugs but this insect is simply beautiful when you take a minute to really look at it. It is a wonder of biological and evolutionary engineering.

For the true enthusiast of insect photography this is where the crane fly fits into the insect family.

Crane fly is a common name referring to any member of the insect family Tipulidae, of the order Diptera, true flies in the superfamily Tipuloidea. Cylindrotominae, Limoniinae, and Pediciinae have been ranked as subfamilies of Tipulidae by most authors, though occasionally elevated to family rank. Wikipedia
Scientific name: Tipulidae
Family: Tipulidae; Latreille, 1802
Order: Fly
Class: Insecta
Kingdom: Animalia

I agree it is truly such a beautiful bug ;)

The design of this crane fly is so intricate. Pretty amazing little bug.

It is when you see shots like this it is amazing how intricate nature can be

I don't know. I think you might just make crane flies look good. But it does remind me of the dragonfly. A little iridescents goes a long way:):):)

HI Pryde, they do look a lot like a dragonfly I agree but much smaller.

A little iridescents goes a long way:)

It sure does. It makes one wonder why they evolved that way? What purpose does it serve?

Maybe grabbing the attention of mates but also of birds and so it is a tradeoff.

Sounds about right. I'm tinkering with infrared photos.

Insects see the world on a variety of wavelengths on the spectrum so it may be interesting to see what they see?

That is a fantastic insect photo! Nicely done... And so kind of him to come indoors to pose for you, so that you didn't even have to go out in the garden.

It was a very welcome little visitor. People usually freak out when they see this bug? I don't know why?

I think it looks amazing and it even posed for it's portrait. 🙌

Howdy sir molometer! it truly is remarkable when you study an insect like that up close, that's a great macro shot!
