How green is this valley?

This space ship looking buildng is the Education Resource Centre as part of the Eden Project's aim to be as inclusive as possible. The building (as well as the rest of the site) has excellent access for people in wheelchairs or people with children and buggy's.

It's #colorchallenge #thursdaygreen so let's take a look at what the Eden Project has made from an old disused clay pit. How green is this valley?

The Core. Education Resource Centre, Eden Project

Just about every plant and tree you can see in these photos has been grown in the 19 years with the help of nature of course. Turning an ugly scar in the earth into this lush green valley.

Transforming the landscape

While the majority of the valley looks 'natural' the designers have allowed some planting to occur that shows human intervention. Like these geometric patterns below.

Wherever you wander or look around at the Eden Project. You can see that they really have thought of every viewing angle. The whole of the valley has been transformed.

As well as the huge geodesic domes (biomes) that house the Rain forest, African and Australian environments there are these smaller biomes that house other environments including temperate climates.

This project shows what can be done to reclaim these disused old industrial sites in a practical and economic sense. It has brought economic benefits to the wider community and is one of the biggest employers in the area.

Most astonishing is the fact that tnis project is a charity. It actually makes money and pumps it back into the community.

It's pretty awesome. We create such beauty when we create from love. I dream of our cities looking more like this and then we can let the land outside of cities reclaim their natural and balanced state. No more monocropping on our grasslands and forests teeming with life and then cities that are beautiful and close to nature but technology advanced with a lot of opportunities for learning and creating. Your post really takes us to a good place. Thank you, MM:)

There are plans for a second Eden in the north of England. In Morecambe. It shows what is possible with the right approach and motivations. Glad you liked the post Pryde.

What an amazing project! I wish that would happen all over the world. Thanks for sharing!

It is truly amazing what they have done with this old pit. They have the skills to roll this out everywhere. Just a matter of time.

Howdy sir molometer! What an inspiration that place is! A charity that makes money! That alone should get everyone's attention and be studied and replicated!

You got that right. A charity that changes lives and improves the environment at the same time. Bingo!

Exactly sir molometer! What an excellent role model to follow.
