Just thought I'd go and see what all the fuss was about regarding the empty shelves in supermarkets and this is what I found.
There are indeed huge parts of this Tesco megastore in East london with nothing on the shelves. Many people wandering around muttering things like.
"There is nothing here?"
Which is a little bit of an exageration. There are shortages but if you can survive on lentils, beans and rice it's not that bad...yet?
It's like we are all in some huge simulation of. "I'm a celebrity get me out of here" just in real life. I'm sure some people are having a lot of fun with this.
There are plenty of avocado's but virtually no milk unless you want skimmed milk?
To my subscribers. Normal service will be resumed as soon as I can unrubble my guitar and gear from the pile of boxes used to move house. Meanwhile life goes on and this is reality...for real!
It's all very well to watch news reports about how to tackle the corona virus but what plans are being made to keep stores supplied with food.
This seems to be more related to a failure of logistical planning and just bad management of the supply chain.

Wow scary stuff there, hopefully you can still get coffee
The whole store was basically #emptyshelves of just about everything!
The booze aisle was full?
I saw one guy with a trolley full of tea bags?
Baffling behavior? The herd is moving and there is no stopping it!
It's a bit like one those end of the world movies? 😱👍
Not to wild in these parts yet but the hood is real quiet:)
Some people are super freaked out here!? It's all a bit odd?
It's not just Tesco. All the stores are the same! It's crazy and really not understandable behaviour

It's just a mess created by bad management and logistics coupled with a lack of transparency from governments.
People are now panic buying while there is no need to?
Using words like 'lockdown' are making things worse.
Some empty shelves up our way too, but most things are available. Not sure there was any pasta yesterday and some cans were sold out. The shops will do well from this for a while, but I would hope the supply chain can cope with demand.
That's the problem Steve. The supply chain is designed for 'just in time' operations not mass panic buying.
Stores don't stockpile goods these days.
So it's a perfect storm.
We shall see. Businesses will want to cash in without being seen to profiteer (if they care). Some may really struggle though. I see the airlines are demanding help as far fewer people will be travelling. They are all on minimal margins.
We are feeling that same scary pain here in the USA. The shelves were pretty empty the last trip we made to the store. I hope you stay safe and healthy!!
Hey Deb, good to hear from you. It's getting crazier by the hour over here and what with all the fun on the blockchain. There's never a dull moment 😂👍
