The weather in the Lake District can change dramatically in a matter of minutes as you will see from the following photographs. Being in these mountains for the first time was mindblowing and the need to be prepared for whatever the elements can throw at you is a must. We saw this sailboat out on the lake and thought it looked lovely in this amazing landscape.
Sailboat on Coniston Water
As I mentioned in my previous post. We decided to take a steamer around the lake to take in the views of the shoreline, trees and mountains. As you can see in the photo below it was a bright sunny day.

The changing colours of the autumn trees, mosses and bracken on the shoreline and hillsides in the photo below was just breathtaking.

Within minutes of setting off in the boat the storm clouds rolled in and covered the lake in this dark forboding mass of roiling cloud and it looked as if it was about to rain very heavily.

And as quickly as it came, it vanished and left behind this beautiful rainbow below that lasted for about 10 minutes.

The rain held off and we had a lovely cruise around the lake but it did make us think about how fast the weather can change in these parts and that we must prepare well for our trip up the mountians which would happen the next day. But that's another blog. 😁

Beautiful photos, I really love the one with the rainbow! I find rainbows a little tricky to capture. We had a good one here yesterday morning, but I have no decent evidence to prove it! Glad to see you made the capture! Resteemed :)
Thank you Keith for the resteem, much appreciated.
This rainbow was there for about 10 minutes and I got it from a few different angles as the boat moved along the lake.
Rainbows are so cool especially from a photographic point of view. Because it's all right there. The thing we try to capture...light in it's many refracted elements.
The lens helps. Sigma 30 mm has very fast glass so the Magenta really pops out.

A lovely selection of photographs @molometer.
You did an excellent job of capturing how quickly the weather changes in the Lakes.
I particularly like the one with the line of trees. Lovely composition. 😁
Thank you Gillian, it is a fabulous environment in which to shoot. I like the changable weather in England. You never know what you are going to get from day to day.
In the Lakes, it's like the weather is on fast forward. I did a time lapse and it's just nuts how fast it changes.
What a great way to get around and take photos!
It was so relaxing to float about and let the landscape change right in front of you.
Really nice boat to see from with the open sides!
Your 40 mins or so from where I live, used to always head upto East of the Lake
What a fantastic location to have on your doorstep. So picturesque. I spotted a Land Rover dealership literally in the middle of nowhere and I thought. What are they doing out here? Then I realised.
In the winter you are going to need a 4x4 to get anywhere in the Lake District.
It’s the perfect place for reviewing cars, twisty roads steep hills, and long straights great for driving our classics including the GTI and green lanes for the Series 2a LR.
Now you mention it. I can see that it would be a perfect spot for making your motoring review videos. Terrific backdrop.
The last image with the rainbow is stunning😍
Cheers!
