Dubrovnik (Croatia)

Finally a real vacation again

It feels like a century since I had a real vacation. But now I had finally two weeks off and we arranged a trip to Croatia to visit some spots to enjoy some new experiences.

First stop: Dubrovnik

Most of you probably heard about Dubrovnik because of Game Of Thrones the American fantasy Drama which was world wide successful. To be honest, I only learned about this when I told friends and colleagues about our plans to visit Croatia. And until now I haven't watched it but it is certainly on my list now!

However, knowing not much about Game of Thrones and frankly about Croatia I was excited to visit.

So, now let me take you with me and share some of my impressions of this little town.

After some hours of flight time (here we are crossing the alps)

we approached the dalmatian see and could see our first impressions of this Mediterranean pearl of Europe.

Unfortunately we had strong winds which forced our pilot to circle around the airport for about 30 minutes. We had the chance to se a bit of the landscape during this time but also faced some strong turbulence and a rough landing. We have been very happy to leave the plane and head to our rented apartment after this. When we arrived, it was all dark and the apartment was about 25 minutes away by foot from the city so we just called it a night and hit the beds.

When I traveled in the past I had one thing I really loved! If you arrive at a new destination ind the dark and you wake up in the morning to see where you actually are now. This rare occasion is what we where lucky enough to experience here once more!

The first view from our apartment in the morning was stunning! You can see a bit of the Dubrovnik old town in the right corner, the island in front is called Lokrum

I knew from this moment, we made the right choice!

Of course we could not wait to explore and got up early to start. Without further words l, let me just share my pictures which I took the next days before we went up the coast to visit the next gem of Croatia, the town of Split

I think if you are a fan of Game of Thrones, you might recognize the one or other place 😊 I really enjoyed to visit this small town and also the surrounding area. There is a lot to discover and I recommend you to just go there and explore by yourself.

One downside though, the prices here are a bit ridiculous. You can pay easily 5€ for a beer or coffee here so better by some supply outside of the old town (still not cheap but acceptable).

We really enjoyed the the city wall walk, which allows you to walk on the city wall surrounding Dubrovnik fortress. In my opinion it's best to buy the day pass as it is the same money (40€ per person) as the normal entrance for the city wall but also includes a bunch of other attractions in the city.

If you have questions or need advice for your visit, please feel free to ask. I think I might have some useful info for you.

See you soon ❤️

Note: all pictures are taken by us (like always), no filters applied!

Curated. Thanks for using Ecency!

Thank you very much 😊

My pleasure!

Around a decade ago, I visited Montenegro and was so close to checking out Dubrovnik, but I missed it... 😞 I heard many great stories about how beautiful the city is, and your photos just proved that!

On the other side, the same negative stories are piling up too... Unbelievably high prices of food and accommodation... Not sure if that should be the case, but massification of places like that would happen even more if it were cheaper...

Thanks for sharing your trip!

I believe ten years ago the price have been still acceptable and it would have been less tourists, more authentic. So yes you should have visited 😅 but hopefully you will have another chance. It's really worth it.

Considering what you wrote about the prices, I guess you have a point there. Also to maintain an old city like that is probably not cheap.

Thank you so much for your comment and have a wonderful day.

Wow, a toip quality work coming from you @mrf83 friend!... Awesome shot by the way!... Thanks for sharing!...

It's really looks like a gem! All this old buildings, cliff diving. Even not being a fan of Game of thrones I love this place.
By the way agree with you for 100% about that when you arrived in city at night time on next morning you can wake up and feel magic of the place!

Yes it is indeed a gem and all of this is packed within this tiny city. Literally almost every street you walk, you will find something new and worth taking a picture.

Thank you so much for your comment @travoved and have a nice evening.

Good evening, @mrf83. I remember a vacation in Spain a long time ago... I might be mistaken. The photos are great—I really liked them... but I wasn't so keen on the price of the coffee.

Best regards:

Hello @enraizar, yes you remember correctly 😊 it was about one year ago when we went to Mallorca and Barcelona. For me it feels like 1 decades ago.

Yes the prices are a bit over the top. However to visit the old town of Dubrovnik, one day is enough. If you come prepared, you can survive without buying anything there (but they have some delicious food to offer there, so it might not easy to resist 😅). And they have 2 or 3 fountains there with drinking water, so you can fill up your water for free. So I guess you can also visit with small budget too. But I highly recommend to buy the city day pass (40€ p.p), that includes almost all entry fees.

About the photos, because of the great weather and the beautiful city, it was very easy to get nice pictures, everything looked like from a catalog 😄 no wonder they like to shoot movies there.

Thank you so much for your nice comment and have a wonderful day!

Good morning @, advice noted, thank you. Regarding the photographs, I think there is more than just good weather, you take very good photographs.

I also wish you a wonderful day.

Thank you so much 😊
