Natural Medicine Curation #15: local veg, natural skin care, placebos, halloween, local medicinal herbs, and much much more...

My Post 20.jpg

This week was HUGE in the world of #naturalmedicine... our post-promotion channel was filled to the brim with all sorts of wisdom, as was the #naturalmedicine tag.

So here is what we think is the best of the best content on the Steem blockchain.

In case you were wondering how we chose posts to be featured in these curations, we favour:

  • original articles
  • a blend of personal stories and facts/research (either anecdotal or otherwise) to engage the reader
  • good images or photos
  • novel or interesting approaches to self care through natural remedies
  • content that makes us go aaaaaaaaahhhhh

If you'd like help making your posts pop, please let us know - we're here to help you succeed!

@sherylneil shared with us some of her favourite fresh and local fruit and veg from SE Asia (and somehow brought across to her home in the UAE by her mum and dad).

Rambutan - a southeast asian fruits, a weird looking monster ball with a similar taste to lychee. This delicious fruit is on season now in the Philippines.

Meanwhile, @walkerland gave us some recipes for natural skincare products using all-natural botanical ingredients we can all easily access and make.

Skin care does not need to be complicated. You can forget all that silly marketing where they pick at our self esteem and tell us we need whatever pricey concoction they are peddling in order to look amazing. You already look amazing. You are amazing. Sometimes we just need a bit of help keeping our skin balanced and healthy and pure and simple ingredients are always best.

@zen-art wrote a wonderful article on the placebo effect, how it works and a great list of links to current scientific research into the phenomenon. Given the close links between natural medicine, mind-body medicine, and placebo/nocebo effects, this is a very important concept to understand more about.

There are estimates that approximately 30 to 60 percent of people will feel a decrease in their pain after taking a placebo pill which is considered a controversial and revolutionary way of thinking how the brain-body relationship may be stronger than we think.

Of course, it was Halloween during the week. While in the southern hemisphere we have been welcoming the onset of spring, our northern colleagues were celebrating the old Samhain festival and the darkening of days.

@walkerland let us know about a free mini-course in herbalism being offered by the Herbal Academy.

@zen-art also reached 1000 followers and got a new job, so decided to offer prizes of SBI shares to her readers as a way to celebrate Samhain.

While @trucklife-family shared with us all a Samhain Festival ritual to honour the turning inwards for the colder months

Just days after co-hosting last weekend's Natural Selection radio chat show, @ofsedgeandsalt published a wonderfully informative piece about Creosote Bush she previously published on her blog Of Sedge And Salt. She writes:

I thought I'd share a few old blog posts featuring past plant profiles I've written, and I may share some of my past podcast episodes as 'entries' as well with some thoughts about the guests. I appreciate the interest in my projects on here in Steem land.

And @porters continued to share her inexhaustible knowledge of local medicine plants with her post on Wild Rose. She tells us:

Not only the rose hips are used but also the flowers, thorns, stems, galls and roots.
Not only can the rose-hips can be eaten straight of the bush but the rose petals (avoid the bitter white portion)are a great to snack on. Another tasty treat is to wrap some butter in the petals or simmer them lightly in some honey.
Both the rose hips and petals make great herbal tea and the rose hip is very high in vitamin C and are great in jams and jellies.
