Hancock on Netflix

in #films • 7 years ago

While I have this feeling that this film is not actually new to Netflix, their official site and the Homepage indicates that it was only added in February of 2020. Whether or not this is actually true doesn't really matter because at least according to moi, this is one of the better films out there that has a superhero of sorts in it.

Will Smith is one of those actors that is very "hit or miss" IMO. Some of his films are outstanding and others are just downright annoying that they get force fed to us simply because the studio believes that anything Will is in can immediately make a ton of money, which for the most part, is a true notion on their part.

Hancock takes a different approach to the superhero genre and shows that not every superhero is actually a good person and doesn't even actually want to be a superhero.

Will Smith plays the role of Hancock, a person with the ability to fly and super-human strength, that periodically helps the people of California when he feels like it. He normally pays no attention to the damage he is causing to his environment and therefore some of the members of the city want to have him put in jail because of it. Of course they don't actually have the power to do this unless Hancock agrees to it.

The story is funny and well produced, and rather than just being a typical mass-produced super-hero story, the plot is actually really inventive and fun. Hancock doesn't have to do anything to help anyone, nor should he feel particularly compelled to listen to any societal demands on him - they can't MAKE him do anything.

Of course the film wouldn't be able to go anywhere if he was simply invincible so they introduce, I think rather cleverly, his one and only weakness into the storyline in a rather touching and humorous way. I'm not going to spill the beans on that because if you are one of the few people that somehow managed to NOT see this film already, I highly suggest that you make it one of the next films you watch on Netflix.

Although there are rumblings about a sequel, no concrete information has been released confirming or denying it. It doesn't really make sense since the film was well-received and made tons of money. I wonder why it is that they don't make sequels to this film, but in the meantime are also running out of other super-hero franchises to launch?

Any ideas?
