There are somewhere in the region of 175 statues and public artworks that depict Queen Victoria across the country.
The nearest one probably to where I live is in Reading just outside the fantastic piece of architecture that is Reading’s town hall.
Created by prominent local artist and businessman George Blackall Simonds (who also sculpted the iconic Maiwand Lion in Forbury Gardens). George’s family were also the owners of the brewery that bore the family name. There’s a lot of references to the Simonds family around the area.
I’ll be posting more of these over time, my aim is to chart historic points of interest around my local area.

Nice shot, Nick! 🇬🇧
Thank you very much
Thanks. There’s a lot we skim past without barely a second thought and that’s what I’m hoping to engage through my posts.
That’s very kind! I’m hoping to add more of these little nuggets as I chart out the area and pin them to the map.
That’s very much the idea, the motivation behind it. Thank you.
