They say friends don't lie. well if was in those days I would have agreed to this totally, but in today's world it's a bit difficult to accept this saying with your full chest. Because I have seen a lot and have heard a lot.
I remember a guy who was arrested for no just cause. How did it happen ? Ifiok and Ubon were good friends. Ifiok was somehow a lazy type who was not ready to work and earn, he was already waiting for people to give him. Even when Ubon his friend who was a graduate will be giving him information of some available works in town and ask him to join him for the work. Ifiok will bluntly refuse and told Ubon that God will favour him one day. So since Ubon was hard working , one day a popular rich man in their community observed him , called him asked him some questions and at the end he promised to employ Ubon as a permanent staff of his company. That was how Ubon's story changed. Ubon started making wealth and was very rich. Ifiok in his usual way continued with his begging life style. He will always call Ubon his friend to ask for cash. Ubon kept giving untill he was tired since Ifiok never wanted to work.
At that point Ifiok developed hatred for Ubon and framed up a lie against him to spoil his reputation to his boss, but not for the intervention of those who really knew Ubon and God's vindication, Ifiok would have succeeded in messing up his friend's reputation.
This same thing still happens in our different communities till date. So I would say that friends lie, which is why we should be careful with friends and trust no body. Because even the one you thought would stand by you in times it trials will be the same one that will betray you.

Your Ifiok and Ubon story is what we watch in movies and real life, indeed we should trust no one

To a point it's okay not to trust anyone but in life we actually need to keep giving our trust until they eventually break it.
Give the trust but there should be a limit
And in most cases, people like Ubon get to live back in mud if not for God's intervention. We should just be careful of whom we associate with and call a friend, not relying too much on them with the mindset that they are perfect cos Humans will always be humans
