Passing the message without saying much.

in Hive Learners2 days ago (edited)

Hello, everyone.

I welcome you to my blog and another wonderful edition of the Hive Learners' featured post. The internet today is only this fun because of the GIFs and memes; if we remove these things, I don't think there will be any fun left to enjoy or experience on the internet. Those memes and GIFs are actually a core part of the internet; if they are not there, then things will never be the same. These memes and GIFs are funny; they make us laugh out loud, but sometimes when you sit down and think about them, you will realize there is actually a real-life message attached to them, but at that time all you could see was the fun part of them. I think a meme is funnier when it relates to you like very well relates to you, you jst feel like they are taking to you indirectly.

The internet is as fun as it is right now because of these things (memes and GIFs); not a single word is said, but you laugh your eyes out. There are times in public when you cannot even control your laughter or hold it back after seeing a meme that you can really relate to; at that point you know you are guilty, and that makes it even funnier. There are friends I chat with and sometimes not a single word, just GIFs and stickers, and then I come to realize that it is even more fun than chatting with words; there is no stress in typing, just going on a search for the one GIF or sticker that fits the one sent perfectly and sending it back.

About a month ago I saw a Twitter meme that said, "Close eye, buy am," with a picture of the famous Nollywood actor Osita Iheme with his eyes closed, and then a reply to that post saying, "Now I cannot open my eyes," with another picture of the same actor in a thinking position, and I was in a tricycle going back home from where I just went to do a "close eye, buy am" kind of thing, and indeed, I too was feeling the weight that what I just did was reckless, but sometimes if you don't do it that way, you will never do certain things.

I saw that meme, and I kept smiling until I alighted because I cannot laugh out loud, and I know others must have noticed the smoke and must be wondering what was wrong with me, but only I know what I saw and how it relates to me. So many memes and gifs are very relatable; they pop up on your timeline, and you feel there is somebody out there monitoring and watching you just because of how they relate to you.

A world without memes and GIFs.

A world without memes and GIFs will be quite a boring one; life was boring before they became very popular, and now they have spiced things up, and I think everyone is enjoying and having fun with them. Removing them will be regression instead of progressing, and that's bad for our mental health, especially for us in the +234 region that needs these memes and GIFs to stay sane.

The "close eye, buy am" story made me smile. We have all had moments like that.

The beautiful thing about meme and gifs is how simple it is to use and it carries a message along with a precise reaction. A person can easily tell how a person feel from meme, something that can't be gotten from just text.

Especially these memes exist for every corner of the world, though specific to their profession and age, you have got to have some context clues as well. As I do not know of that actor, I wouldn't understand much.
