My name is Joseph Precious Seloghena, a native of Okpella in Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State. I am the second child in a family of five, with three other siblings. I graduated from Federal Polytechnic Auchi, Edo State, where I obtained my Higher National Diploma (HND) in Statistics from the Department of Statistics, School of Information and Communication Technology, in the year 2024.
From a very young age, I had a strong desire to go to school. This passion became stronger during my JSS 3 when I had the opportunity to be taught by a corps member and a student on Industrial Training. Their encouragement and dedication made me take my academics more seriously. In particular, the corps member who taught us Mathematics helped me understand the subject better and showed me the importance of education. Through them, I learned not to pay attention to those who discourage children, teenagers, or adults from pursuing education. I was also privileged to grow up in a student-friendly environment, where I regularly saw young adults progressing to higher institutions, which further inspired me.
My love for calculation-based courses influenced my choice of study. Although the journey was stressful—from lectures to assignments, tests, and examinations—I scaled through with the help of God, the support of my family and friends, and the passion that started the journey. My friends played a major role, especially in helping me understand courses I found difficult. We attended physical classes both in school and at home, and we also made use of WhatsApp voice calls to support one another academically.
While in school, I had to engage in part-time work to support my education. Combining work with academics was not easy, but God saw me through my HND program. I was blessed with an amazing and supportive boss, who was very kind and understanding. After completing my studies, I continued working for one year and one month before receiving my NYSC call-up letter, which is mandatory for all Nigerian graduates.
I am currently serving my country in my state of deployment, teaching in a missionary school as an Economics teacher. Although teaching was not my initial plan, I am gradually getting used to it and have come to love the process.
Aside from academics, I am deeply passionate about music. I love singing and listening to gospel songs because they help build my faith, and I enjoy watching Mount Zion dramas. I strongly desire to learn more about music and, if possible, to study music in the future.
I was introduced to the Hive Blockchain by a friend, @somuchgrace.
