One of the most desirable places to visit among mountain lovers is undoubtedly Patagonia and the Torres del Paine National Park located in its Chilean part. The place is so popular that over 250,000 tourists come to this park every year. However, it must be remembered that the park is located in the Magellanes region, which is inhabited by slightly fewer people than Rzeszów, and its area is comparable to the area of the Czech Republic and Slovakia combined. It is a kind of island cut off from the rest of the country by mountains and ice sheets, and to get from this place to the rest of Chile you have to, for example, take a 40-hour cruise, take a 2-hour flight or travel 1000 km by car, making a loop through Argentina. This shows how unnaturally large traffic of people is channeled in this one point, and since tourists are an unruly group who very often want to do certain things their own way without fully following the rules, the park authorities had to start reacting to prevent the park from being trampled. The most effective method turned out to be limiting the possibility of staying overnight to only a few places specially prepared for this purpose. There are only a few hundred accommodation places in the entire park, and it is this narrow neck that limits the number of tourists who can hike one in two trekkings: trekking O, i.e. a ring around the entire park, and trekking W, i.e. a half ring around the park and entry to the Mirador Británico viewpoint. Due to this, the vast majority of people coming to Torres del Paine can only do a one-day trek to Mirador Base Las Torres and drive a car around the areas adjacent to the park, which also offer amazing views.
We spent two days in Torres del Paine, but because there were no accommodations in the park, we had to come there twice from Puerto Natales. We devoted one of them to hiking in the southwestern part of the park. We were very lucky that day. The weather was perfect, it's hard to imagine better conditions for such walks. While hitching a ride out of Puerto Natales, an Englishman stopped with us and took us not only to the National Park, but also went with us to the most interesting viewpoints. The Cuernos and Condor viewpoints offer almost the same view of the Torres del Paine hills, but from different perspectives. The Condor viewpoint is located high on a rocky hill and is said to be a frequent spot for watching Condors, while the Cuernos viewpoint is a few kilometers away and is separated from the peaks of Torres del Paine only by the Nodrenskjold Lagoon.
We were also lucky because we came across a grazing Andean guanak. So far, we have only seen numerous road signs warning against the possible intrusion of this wild cousin of the llama onto the road. We also often encountered remains of guanaks hit by cars, which were only able to move a few steps beyond the road after the collision, and that's where various types of predators took them. Generally, run-down animals are often the only ones we managed to meet in South America. Armadillos, for example, are quite popular, but the only one I saw was an armadillo pancake on national road number 9, but a bit earlier on the same road we saw a live skunk, which again are very rarely seen, so it's mainly a matter of luck which animals you come across , and I guess we were lucky after all. Agatka also considers it lucky that we did not encounter any pumas in Torres del Paine. There are a lot of them there and sometimes they appear from a distance to tourists wandering around the park. However, Agatka is very afraid of these big cats, as much as I am afraid of spiders, so for her peace of mind, maybe it's better that we didn't see any.

Jedno z najbardziej pożądanych miejsc do odwiedzenia wśród miłośników gór bez wątpienia jest Patagonia i znajdujące się w jej Chilijskiej części Park Narodowy Torres del Paine. Miejsce jest tak popularne, że rocznie przybywa do tego parku ponad 250 000 turystów. Trzeba pamiętać jednak, że park znajduje się w rejonie Magellanes, który zamieszkuje troszkę mniej ludzi niż Rzeszów, a jego powierzchnia jest porównywalna z powierzchnią Czech i Słowacji razem wziętych. Jest on swego rodzaju wyspa odciętą od reszty kraju górami i lądolodem i aby dostać się z tego miejsca do pozostałej części Chile trzeba np: płynąć 40 godzinnym rejsem, lecieć 2 godzinnym lotem lub tłuc się autem 1000km robiąc pętelkę przez Argentynę. Pokazuje to, jak nienaturalnie duży ruch ludzi kanalizuje się w tym jednym punkcie, a że turyści to niesforna grupa, która nadzwyczaj często chce robić pewne rzeczy po swojemu nie do końca przestrzegając zasad, władze parku musiały zacząć reagować aby po prostu park nie został zadeptany. Najskuteczniejszą metodą okazało się ograniczenie możliwości nocowania do tylko kilku miejsc specjalnie do tego przygotowanych. Miejsc noclegowych w całym paku wynosi zaledwie kilkaset, i to jest ta wąska szyjka ograniczająca liczbę turystów który mogą wędrować po jednym w dwóch trekkingów trekking O , czyli pierścień wokół całego parku i trekking W czyli pół pierścień wokół parku i wejście na punkt widokowy Mirador Británico. Przez to zdecydowana większość osób przyjeżdżających do Torres del Paine może pokusić się wyłącznie na jednodniowy trekking na Mirador Base Las Torres oraz objazd autem terenów przyległych do parku, z których również rozpościerają się niesamowite widoki.
My w Torres del Paine spędziliśmy dwa dni, ale ponieważ nie było miejsc noclegowych w parku musieliśmy tam dwukrotnie przyjeżdżać z Puerto Natales. Jeden z nich poświęciliśmy na wędrówki po południowo zachodniej części parku. Tego dnia szczęście nam bardzo sprzyjało. Pogoda była idealna, ciężko wyobrazić sobie lepsze warunki w takie spacery. Łapiąc stopa na wylotówce z Puerto Natales zatrzymał się przy nas pewien Anglik, który zabrał nas ze sobą nie tylko do Parku Narodowego, ale także wybrał się z nami po najciekawszych punktach widokowych. Punkty widokowe Cuernos i Condor oferują niemal ten sam widok na wzgórza Torres del Paine, ale z różnych perspektyw. Punkt widokowy Condor znajduje się wysoko na skalistym wzgórzu i ponoć jest częstym punktem obserwacji Kondorów, natomiast punkt widokowy Cuernos jest kilka kilometrów dalej i od szczytów Torres del Paine oddziela go wyłącznie Laguna Nodrenskjold.
Szczęście dopisało nam również ze względu na to, że napatoczyliśmy się na pasące się stało gwanak andyjskich. Do tej pory widzieliśmy tylko liczne znaki drogowe ostrzegające przez możliwym wtargnięciem tego dzikiego kuzyna lamy na drogę. Często spotykaliśmy również pozostałości po gwanakach potrąconych przez samochody, które zderzeniu były w stanie przejść wyłącznie kilka kroków poza jezdnie i tam zabierały się za nie różnego rodzaju drapieżniki. Ogólnie rozjechane zwierzęta to często jedyne egzemplarze jakie udawało nam się spotkać w ameryce południowej. Pancerniki dla przykładu są dość popularne, ale jedyny jakiego widziałem to był naleśnik z pancernika na drodze krajowej numer 9, ale kawałek wcześniej na tej samej szosie spotkaliśmy żywego skunksa, które znowuż są bardzo rzadko widywane, więc to głównie kwestia szczęścia na jakie zwierzęta się trafi, a my chyba jednak mieliśmy szczęście. Agatka za szczęście uznaje również to, że nie spotkaliśmy żadnej pumy w Torres del Paine. Jest ich tam bardzo dużo i czasami pokazują się z oddali turystom wędrującym po parku. Agatka jednak bardzo boi się tych dużych kotów, tak bardzo jak ja boję się pająków, więc dla jej spokoju może lepiej, że nie widzieliśmy żadnej.
