It had been a while since I saw these cool creatures in nature, without counting with the tiny one in a friend's garden this last weekend. So, why not showcase them in a #monomad post?
The creatures in question are a fascinating group, with almost 8000 species worldwide. And no, they won't harm you, unless you try to lick them.
Yes, I'm serious. Thow shall not lick frogs or toads. First, it's kind of common sense - some species have special glands with a foul taste to avoid predation; besides, it's unlikely they will be attracted to you, so you would be kind of harassing the poor creatures.
And if you ignore my advice and grab one like this cutie on the picture above, it might be the last thing you'll do. Might as well leave them alone, and enjoy the luck of finding them on your nature walks.
Amphibians normally have a slimy skin, and that slime provides protection, so touching them with your bare hands also doesn't work: nothing bad would come to you, but damaging the protective barrier could mean death to them. If you need to grab them (for relocation, for example), use a moist cloth, or wetted gloves.

The warts all over the body tell you this one is a toad, although scientifically speaking, all toads are frogs. And no, you can't touch toads either.
As a general rule when encountering wildlife, I heard a rule a long time ago that I cherish; I learned it during a diving course, but it works with creatures above and below sea level. It's something like this: if it's too beautiful, too ugly, or doesn't run away when you get close... don't touch it!!!
In fact, you never know if the creature in question has a short temper, and decides to teach you a lesson. You never know what might be lurking out there... waiting and plotting a revenge!

That's an incredible variety of species. Are they active at particular times?
