Global big day

Hello friends. Global Big Day, besides being a date eagerly awaited by experts, scientists, and enthusiasts, is also the ideal time to introduce more people to the fascinating world of birds and raise awareness about the importance of protecting the ecosystems on which their survival depends.

Global big day

Hola amigos.

#SMaP

Beyond the statistics and lists, this day has something profoundly human about it. It compels us to get up early, to walk together, to listen attentively, to share knowledge and emotions. It invites us to visit those spaces that still exist, capable of uniting very different people under the same purpose: to observe, learn, and preserve.

Each recorded species represents more than just numbers on a platform. Behind every observation are hours of searching, patience, enthusiasm, and a love for nature. There are also stories, anecdotes, reunions, and moments impossible to repeat.

For us, the Global Big Day on May 9th didn't end when night fell or when we uploaded the final lists to eBird. It remains in the conversations, the photographs, the new friends, and that hard-to-explain feeling of having been part of something enormous, something that happened simultaneously in almost every corner of the planet.

As I review the photos taken during the day, I think that perhaps this is the true charm of this event: making us feel like we're observing birds from different vantage points, while, at times, inevitably, we all gaze at the same sky. Here are some snapshots from the day.

Thank you!

The last bird is absolutely beautiful; the colors of its plumage are fascinating, and I also find it somewhat exotic. It looks like it’s wearing eye makeup, and the colors on its neck make it look like it’s wearing a sweater. It’s wonderful to see them in their natural habitat with their young. Best regards.

Hi, it's interesting how someone else sees the world. It really is a beautiful bird; it's very common here and they call it a Killer because of its call. Its eye ring indicates that it's raising chicks, perhaps two or three, which are very well camouflaged among the sand, rocks, and vegetation. Although it's common, I agree with you that it's quite a sight with its plumage, and the plant is a real feast when it turns yellow and red at the end of the season. Thank you for your kind words and your support.

I am so happy to see you all gathering on that day and what a great time you had!
To be part of such community is really awesome.
