Measles Cases Are Reaching Record Highs in America
The U.S. recently reached a grim milestone: As of July 23, more measles cases have been reported to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention than in any year since 1991. It took less than seven months to blow past the three-decade high recorded last year.
This potentially deadly disease is easily prevented. Shots are widely available and, in many cases, free. Still, since the beginning of last year, more than 4,850 people here have been infected, and three have died. Among them were two unvaccinated girls in West Texas whose deaths made national headlines.

Russia Jails Politician for Criticizing War in Ukraine
A Russian court sentenced an opposition politician to 11 years and one month in a penal colony for speaking against President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, the latest anti-war figure to be jailed in a broader crackdown on dissent.
Lev Shlosberg, a deputy chairman of the liberal Yabloko party, received the sentence on Monday after being convicted under Russia’s laws against disseminating false information and discrediting the military.

Interesting to see the editorial connecting incidents across europe. By interesting, I mean concerning. Hard to pull the facts from left vs right bullshit but I am hoping half of USA is as concerned as the rest of the world is. Concerned and industrious enough to weather this huge bump in the road and correct the flaws in the political system!
Bump in the road? We are stricken here, those of us who have any sense of history. We search for a rationale.
Our mistake is looking for a rationale. There is a reason, though--the man is driven by impulse and impulse is motivated by self interested. He has a pathological combination of a wounded ego and a grandiose ego.
The people in my country have given this man power. Can you imagine handing virtually unlimited power to someone with pathological drives. Oh, we don't have to imagine it. It's here.
Nobody knows how this will end. We know how it began. We see the process now. How will it end? The upcoming elections will be the best indication of the future. If we are allowed to have elections (open question), then maybe people in this country will set things right. Maybe we'll have a legislative branch that does its job.
November...watch for November.
THERE'S one of my American friends I am embarrassed for because of what is happening! The putrid orange is just the icing on the cake.
Bump in the road is my optimistic view on things as I REALLY hope that is what it is for us all. For us up here, it should all be comedic theatre but the waves of destruction are rolling far beyond the borders.
NOVEMBER! A year and a half ago, I would have NEVER fathomed that we might be questioning the ability to have an open election!
I am sincerely hoping the last year and a half of utter madness will at least show people with any sense of history and rationale what happens when they don't vote and mindset changes will get everyone to the polls. That and hoping they can't FAKE NEWS the results away.
That is the most frightening part. The ability to rattle the world order. To bring destruction, literally on a mass scale.
We've seen it before in history. One man gets an idea in his head and turns a country upside down and then that country turns the world upside down. Before nuclear bombs :(
I think the error in assessing this silliness is blaming it on the orange guy. Him and his inner circle were hand picked and he is a rotting cherry on the organized sundae. Now we need the power of the system to regulate the elite left vs corrupt/idiotic right. Hope!
