Our little joyride above $1 HIVE yesterday got me wondering about one of the potential effects of a much higher price. At $10, 0.001 HIVE is $0.01 and micro transactions start to become problematic. Newbies need to pass the $0.02 threshold for payouts or their potential earnings vanish in the dust. Many of us remember getting a bunch of $0.00 results before our first joyous pennies payout. What happens if $0.02 HIVE payouts are no longer possible?

Maybe we need to start thinking about more decimal places for HIVE. Bitcoin has eight, and when PAL first launched on Hive-Engine, it had no decimal points, which was quickly seen as a problem. Having only three decimal places wouldn’t be a problem for HBD, but for HIVE it could create problems for noob payouts and possibly for recurring micro-payments and tipping (or at least those using HIVE rather than HBD).

We'll give newbies bigger upvotes 😁. Some of them are really doing way better in their early days than I did.

We could always beef up the dust bunny to put newbies over the threshold.
