MY FIRST STOP-MOTION | UNIVERSITY PROJECT [ENG/ESP]
Hello HIVE, I hope you are all doing well and doing some creative activity.
Hola HIVE espero que todos se encuentren muy bien, haciendo alguna actividad creativa.
For two years I have been studying visual arts at UNEARTE, specializing in "Mixed Media". We recently finished the third semester, where I began to study the subjects corresponding to my specialty. This semester we were researching "Video Art" and the technical bases of audiovisuals; to develop a small project that we will present at the end of the semester. The topic on which we would base ourselves to develop the idea of the audiovisual project (video art) was "EROTICISM IN THE PLASTIC ARTS". Based on this concept, we would have to take several technical steps to develop the idea, the script, the storyboard, and the execution to create a good video performance that represents EROS. All this led me to delve into a research process in order to develop my project properly. I had notions of what the audiovisual world is, but in this process I can confirm that I evolved in this field.
Desde hace dos años estoy estudiando artes plásticas en UNEARTE, en la especialidad de "Medios Mixtos", hace poco cerramos el tercer semestre en donde comencé a ver las materias correspondientes a mi especialidad, este semestre estuvimos investigando el "Videoarte" y las bases técnicas del audiovisual; para desarrollar un pequeño proyecto que presentaremos al final del semestre, el tema en el cual nos basaríamos para desarrollar la idea del proyecto audiovisual (videoarte) era "EL EROTISMO EN LAS ARTES PLASTICAS" a raíz de ese concepto tendríamos que realizar varios pasos técnicos para desarrollar la idea, el guion, el storyboard, y la ejecución para crear un buen video performance que represente el EROS. todo esto me llevo a adentrarme en un proceso de investigación para poder desarrollar bien mi proyecto, yo tenía nociones de lo que es el mundo audiovisual, pero en este proceso puedo confirmar que evolucione en este ámbito.
The first thing I did was develop an idea. One day I was in the university cafeteria, helping a friend clean a typewriter that he would use for an installation that he would present in his final project of "mixed media 6". When we started to reload the ink ribbons of the machine, I got my hands dirty. At that moment, when I was looking at my hands, the muse came to me and with it a very interesting idea to do my audiovisual project. Basically, the premise is "a painter is in front of his canvas painting and suddenly he sees his hands full of paint and he begins to enter an erotic trance that generates excitement, his hands full of paint and he runs his hands over his body leaving a trail of paint as he reaches the climax. In the end, the painter ends up being the same works he painted." I made a script where I specified everything with details of setting, timing and lighting. Here I show you the process of making the storyboard where I capture the 7 scenes that will make up this short video performance.
Lo primero que hice fue desarrollar una idea, estando un día en el comedor de la universidad, ayudando a un amigo a limpiar una máquina de escribir que usaría para una instalación que presentaría en su proyecto final de "medios mixtos 6", cuando comenzamos a recargar las cintas de tinta de la maquina me manche las manos, en ese instante que me estoy viendo las manos, me llego la musa y con ella una idea muy interesante para hacer mi proyecto audiovisual; básicamente la premisa es "un pintor esta frente a su lienzo pintando y de pronto se ve las manos llenas de pintura y comienza a entrar en un trance erótico que le genera excitación sus manos llenas de pintura y se recorre el cuerpo con las manos dejando un rastro de pintura mientras llega a el clímax, al final el pintor termina siendo la mismo obras que pinto". Realice un guion donde especifico todo con detalles de escenario, tiempos e iluminación, aquí les muestro el proceso de realización del storyboard en donde plasmo las 7 escenas que conformaran este corto video performance.
The teachers came up with a very interesting idea, to implement in this creative process several factors such as "sculpture" and "assembly" that are complementary parts of the mixed media specialty, that is why they required us to make the characters and scenery in 3D so that we can do a STOP-MOTION as an exercise to have an idea of how the scenes and the lighting of the final performance video will turn out, which will be real, I will be the actor in that video; for all this was that I built a model as a stage and create a character that I mold from the skeleton to make this stop-motion video that is also a kind of storyboard. It helped me to choose the correct lighting that would generate the mental state that I wanted, for example, at the beginning of the video the lighting should be blue to generate an atmosphere of concentration in which the character is focused on the activity he is doing and as the video progresses that atmosphere changes along with the character's state of consciousness; Fun fact: To create these lighting colors, I used some blue grocery bags and other colored empty objects to be able to generate the colors that the scene required. It had to be solved somehow.
A los profesores se les ocurrió una idea muy interesante, para implementar en este proceso creativo varios factores como la "escultura" y "el ensamblaje" que son parte complementaria de la especialidad medios mixtos, por eso nos exigieron realizar a los personajes y escenario en 3D de manera que podamos realizar un STOP-MOTION como ejercicio para tener una noción de cómo va aquedar las escenas y la iluminación del video performance final que va a ser real, yo seré el actor de ese video; por todo esto fue que construí una maqueta como escenario y un cree un personaje que moldee desde el esqueleto para realizar este video stop-motion que viene siendo también una especie de storyboard. Me sirvió para escoger la iluminación correcta que generara el estado mental que yo deseaba, por ejemplo al inicio del video la iluminación debe ser azul para generar una atmosfera de concentración en la que el personaje está enfocado en la actividad que está realizando y en el transcurso del video esa atmosfera cambia junto con el estado de conciencia del personaje; dato curioso para realizar estos colores de iluminación use unas bolsas esas de mercados de color azul y otros objetos de vacíos colores para poder generar los colores que requería la escena, había que resolver como sea.
A while ago I bought a small tripod that was very useful to me in making this stop-motion production. It was a big challenge that I took on alone, but I feel satisfied with everything I learned in the process. There were scenes that were complicated to achieve, especially because I was alone, but with a lot of ingenuity I managed to make all the scenes that I had designed in the script (I remember that this is not the final project, this is part of the creation process, like a storyboard exercise to have a visualization prior to the final production). I had to move the set and the character in different positions in order to get the shots that I captured in the illustrated storyboard. For being my first project in this field and also without having a guide or a tutor telling me what to do, beyond a few videos that I saw on the Internet and my fondness for this type of productions that have always fascinated me, I consider that I have done very well, there are many errors and things that could be improved with digital editing, but currently I do not have a PC suitable for making those improvements, this entire production was done with my cell phone.
Hace un tiempo atrás adquirí un pequeño trípode que me fue de muchísima utilidad para realizar esta producción de stop-motion, fue un gran reto que asumí solo, pero me siento satisfecho con todo lo aprendido en el proceso; hubo escenas que fueron complicadas de lograr, más que todo porque estaba yo solo, pero con mucho ingenio logre realizar todas las escenas que había diseñado en el guion (recuerdo que este no es el proyecto final, esto es parte del proceso de creación, como un ejercicio de storyboard para tener una visualización previa a la producción final) tuve que mover en distintas posiciones el escenario y al personaje para poder obtener los planos que plasme en el storyboard ilustrado. Para ser mi primer proyecto de este ámbito y además sin tener una guía o un tutor diciéndome que hacer, más allá de unos cuantos videos que vi en internet y mi afición por este tipo de producciones que siempre me han fascinado, considero que me quedo muy bien, hay muchos errores y cosas que se pudieran mejorar con edición digital, pero actualmente no cuento con una pc apto para realizar esas mejoras, toda esta producción fue realizada con mi teléfono celular.
Eroticism in the plastic arts, under that premise I based myself to create the concept of this video art that at first I titled "THE FETISH OF A PAINTER" where through a short narrative of only seven scenes I try to capture the process of transmutation in which a creative painter artist is transformed into his own creation, becoming the work; In the video performance the painter is shown in his act of creation and then when he sees his hands covered in paint he enters an erotic ecstasy that drives him to run his hands full of paint over his entire body, staining the trail left by the path of the hands on the skin in a somewhat sensual way, in the end the painter finishes the erotic climax with his body covered in paint wanting to represent the transmutation, now he is the work.
Erotismo en las artes plásticas, bajo esa premisa me base para crear el concepto de este video arte que en un principio titule "EL FETICHE DE UN PINTOR" en donde mediante una narrativa corta de solo siete escenas intento plasmar el proceso de trasmutación en el que un artista pintor creador se transforma en su propia creación, volviéndose la obra; en el video performance se muestra al pintor en su acto de creación y luego cuando ve sus manos embarradas de pintura entra en un éxtasis erótico que lo impulsa a recorrer todo su cuerpo con sus manos llenas de pintura, manchando el rastro que deja el recorrido de las manos por la piel de manera algo sensual, al final el pintor termina el clímax erótico con el cuerpo cubierto de pintura queriendo representar la trasmutación, ahora él es la obra.
A couple of weeks ago was the delivery and review of the final projects, in the class I am in there are only 4 students including me, not all of them managed to meet the requirements to bring and present; only one friend managed to do all the exercises and finish her final project, she and I were the only ones who managed to do the stop-motion, it really is something that requires a lot of dedication and passion for what you are doing, it is not a job for just anyone. I presented my entire portfolio recording the process of creating this project, also that same day I presented the final performance video in which I am the protagonist, I have not shared it here with the community, but I will soon, the teachers were delighted with all the material I presented, they recognized the effort and the ability to create projects of this type.
Hace un par de semanas atrás fue la entrega y revisión de los proyectos finales, en la clase que estoy solo somos 4 estudiantes contándome, no todos lograron cumplir con los requerimientos que había que traer y presentar; solo una amiga logro hacer todas os ejercicios y culminar su proyecto final, ella y yo fuimos los únicos que logramos hacer el stop-motion, es que de verdad es algo que requiere de mucha dedicación y pasión por lo que estás haciendo, no es un trabajo para cualquier persona. Presente todo mi portafolio de registro del proceso de creación de este proyecto, también ese mismo día presente el video performance final en el que yo soy el protagonista, ese no lo he compartido por aquí con la comunidad, pero pronto lo hare, los profesores quedaron encantados con todo el material que presente, reconocieron el esfuerzo y la capacidad para crear proyectos de este tipo.
I was very satisfied with this whole process of research and creation, I love seeing the progress I'm making in the artistic field, it is noticeable that I dedicate time to research in order to develop ideas effectively, as is the case with this stop-motion and the entire production process behind it, for being the first time I make one, I consider that it is very good, with correctable errors, but it is acceptable, this result reaffirms my security and makes me start structuring a new idea right now that I want to materialize in this same medium as stop-motion, it is going to take time and dedication, but I have the passion that is needed to achieve it. Quede muy satisfecho con todo este proceso de investigación y creación, me encanta ver el progreso que estoy teniendo en el ámbito artístico, se nota que le dedico tiempo a la investigación para poder desarrollar ideas de manera efectiva como es el caso de este stop-motion y todo el proceso de producción que hay detrás, para ser la primera vez que realizo uno, considero que está muy bien, con errores corregibles, pero esta aceptable, este resultado reafirma mi seguridad y me hace ponerme desde ya mismo a estructurar una nueva idea que quiero materializar en este mismo medio como los es el stop-motion, me va a tomar tiempo y dedicación, pero tengo la pasión que se necesita para lograrlo.
