This is a blogging challenge entry that I was quite excited to do, most of my posts on Hive are about cinema and I hadn't even talked about my favorite movie yet, so hey, this is the perfect moment.
Throughout my life I have found many films that I have loved, but it has always seemed to me that defining a movie as a favorite is putting too much pressure on our tastes, cinema is too wide a world, there are too many genres and styles, and tastes are too subjective, how do I choose a single film from the sea of hundreds of films that I have seen throughout my life? With so many works that have marked me.
The answer for me is relatively simple: I don't focus on the best movie, but on the one that I feel best represents my tastes, that I enjoy every time I watch a movie, so I decided that Goodfellas was my favorite movie.
Goodfellas is a gangster movie directed by Martin Scorsese that was released in 1990, there are hundreds of reasons why I love this work, but I will try to summarize the most important ones.
Before Goodfellas, gangster and mafia cinema was a bit more traditionalist, The Godfather introduced us to the world of the Italian mafia from a very conservative perspective, full of respect and principles that all its members had to respect. In goodfellas the mafia is intoxicated in the middle of the persecution of the American dream, its principles are twisted, giving way to a new school that does not respect these traditions, that contrast is excellently represented by Scorsese through music and the fast pace that characterizes the film.
The script is great and together with the direction the 2 and a half hours that the film lasts are not heavy at all, this is reinforced by brilliant performances by Ray Liotta, Robert Deniro and Joe Pesci, these last two would have the opportunity to work together a couple of times later (And recently on The Irishman). The chemistry between these characters is undeniable, and the structure of the plot always allows us to understand their dynamics, the way of thinking of each one and their differences.
Goodfellas has it all, an incredible soundtrack, impressive dialogue that can go from black comedy to drama in a masterful way, it is very well directed, and it has a rhythm that does not bore despite its long duration.
I don't know if it's the best movie in the world (Probably not), but I feel like it represents my tastes like no other.

Esta es una entrada del blogging challenge que estaba bastante emocionado por realizar, la mayoría de mis post en Hive son sobre cine y aun no había hablado de mi película favorita, así que bueno, este es el momento perfecto.
A lo largo de mi vida he encontrado muchas cintas que me han encantado, pero siempre me ha parecido que definir una pelicula como la favorita es poner demasiado presión sobre nuestros gustos, el cine es un mundo demasiado amplio, hay demasiados generos y estilos, y los gustos son demasiado subjetivos, ¿Como escojo una sola película en el mar de cientos de films que he visto a lo largo de mi vida? Con tantas obras que me han marcado.
La respuesta para mi es relativamente simple: No me enfoco en la mejor pelicula, sino en aquella que siento que representa mejor mis gustos, que disfruto cada vez que veo una cinta, así decidí que Goodfellas era mi película favorita.
Goodfellas es una película de gangsters dirigida por Martin Scorsese que fue estrenada en 1990, existen cientos de razones por las que amo esta obra, pero voy a tratar de sintetizar las más importantes.
Antes de Goodfellas, el cine de gangsters y mafiosos era un poco más tradicionalistas, The Godfather nos introducía al mundo de la mafia italiana desde una perspectiva muy conservadora, llena de respeto y principios que todos sus miembros debían respetar. En goodfellas la mafia se ve intoxicada en medio de la persecución del sueño americano, sus principios se tuercen, dando paso a una nueva escuela que no respeta estas tradiciones, ese contraste es excelentemente representado por Scorsese por medio de la música y el ritmo tan acelerado que caracteriza el film.
El guion es estupendo y junto con la dirección las 2 horas y media que dura la cinta no se hacen para nada pesadas, esto se ve reforzado por brillantes perfomances de Ray Liotta, Robert Deniro y Joe Pesci, estos dos ultimos tendrían la oportunidad de trabajar juntos un par de veces más adelante (Y recientemente en The Irishman). La química entre estos personajes es innegable, y la estructura de la trama siempre nos deja comprender su dinámica, la forma de pensar de cada uno y sus diferencias.
Goodfellas lo tiene todo, una banda sonora increíble, dialogos impresionantes que pueden pasar de la comedia negra al drama de manera magistral, esta muy bien dirigida, y tiene un ritmo que no aburre a pesar de su larga duración.
No sé si es la mejor pelicula del mundo (Probablemente no), pero siento que representa mis gustos como ninguna.
