Have you ever been to a place a number of times and spent a reasonable amount of time there, yet somehow missed a hidden gem? So it was with us as we looked for easy walks in Eden and surrounds for Dad to manage with his sore hip, and to take photos. Asling Beach is Eden's main stretch of beach - we stayed at a caravan park at one end last year, in fact, we spent a whole week at this place and never walked up the end to discover the man made swimming pool there.

The walk is only about a kilometre from the carpark, and the closer you get to the rocky outcrop the more the pool becomes visible. It sits so subtly in the natural landscape it's not intrusive at all, yet I doubt a council would be able to get approval to build something like this now. But I digress - firstly, the colour of the rocks is jsut so unusual. I can imagine at sunrise it would glow quite an unearthly colour. There is a huge bulbous mark in the middle that gives it a certain whale like appearance, a gargantuan creature stuck in time.

In some ways it was disappointing - I imagined it more swimmable. Yet it's for children after all - hardly a lap pool. If they did get a digger to get the sand out I imagine they would be able to swim laps in it! There are photos on line of it looking - well, more swimming pooly.

I quite liked the straight lines of the pool in contrast to the curves of the cliff. It's quite amazing the quality you can get with a phone camera these days - I am really getting into composition so that the photo is a little more than a snapshot. This one I was particularly pleased with.

My Dad loved it - he likes feats of engineering and appreciates the community effort behind building such a thing. There's quite a few on the coast, but not down our way - too cold, I expect, and I can hear the controversy now as no one likes the natural environment being messed with. Still, a balance can be achieved.

From a distanced, certainly, you wouldn't even notice it was there - in fact, last year, we had no idea!

On the way back we found a random chair, which we had a bit of fun with.

I did really love the pool, but what I really loved was spending a bit of time with my parents. We had such a lovely morning visiting a few easy to access sites and had a coffee by the Eden Wharf. It cheered Dad up a bit - it's hard to come to terms with one's diminished physicality and he's always been such an active man. I often here them saying, as we go off on adventures: 'well, we've had our time', but it can't be easy. There's still so much life in both of them - here's to hoping Dad gets the hip sorted out soon.

Back to the marking with ya!
It's killing me! Nearly marked 1000 and I feel I've earnt enough money to call it a day.
The first shot left me sure that the giant rock was a fallen tree for a second... Looks so majestic. And I am loving the clear water and the stretch of trees running along the beach...
Oh the trees were cool too!
What a beauty! It is a really nice corner of the beach. It makes me remember and miss the beach. These natural spaces are so perfect. Beautiful pictures by the way. 😃✨🙌🙏👊
Thankyou! I live half an hour from the beach and it's not close enough. If only I could afford to live closer!
What a lovely idea to have a swimming pool by the beach. But I'm sure like you said a dated idea that would not be considered today. Nice photos. The rock outcropping is beautiful. And sounds like a beautiful day with family 🙂
It was. You kinda feel they are limited at this stage so every moment is precious.
Meh... Your photos are okay. Mostly mediocre :)
Lol, JK!!
I think you've got a nick for these kinds of things actually! Infact, your photos make up atleast, 50% of your post's quality.
Ah yes, how wonderful and wholesome it is to spend time with your family. As you grow older, you realize this even more I believe.
Honestly, I sympathize with your father - I really do. Needless to say, I certainly hopes he gets better too!
P.S: Didn't Mama ever teach y'all to stay away from random old mysterious chairs at the beach? :)
No she didn't!!! We survived though .. unless it was cursed?
🪑👹
The most non committal compliment ever! 😂😂😂
Aw that sucks, y'all certainly missed out on a killer talk. As a bonus, it even comes with a workshop on how to overcome random chair sitting addiction!
Cursed? :) My thoughts exactly!
Committal?... Is this a typo or something because I looked up the word and ...
Well jeez, I know I say some weird shit some times but damn😅
It gets wierder! Put non in front of it and you get 'babies' and 'furnaces' in the same sentence!
Ha! I see... English do be weird at times then😂
Wow, nice place to explore, I dont know if Im the only one think of it the first photo is like a head of a fish 😅
Oh yes you are right, the eye looks like a fish eye!
Have you ever been to a place a number of times and spent a reasonable amount of time there
Yes, there is s place where I already visited at least more than 10 times, and still, I am finding some people posting a specific that I am still not able to visit.
By the way, the stone from the background looks like a fish
There’s one like this in Cornwall in the UK. It’s in perranporth and I missed it the first couple of times. The water gets refreshed with the tide. The main attraction on that beach in a pub called the watering hole. It’s quite a big building placed right on the beach. When the tide comes in it becomes an island. A few people have been caught out by that.
Oh that's so cool! I'll have to go next time we are in Cornwall!
That pool is cool, never saw a design like that. Glad you had such a good day out with your dad. :))
They are quite lovely in their own way!!
Indeed.
