Getting My Walking Fitness Back on Track

in Wednesday Walk5 months ago

At last, it seems, my hips are stable enough to walk - the new physio gave me a solid plan I'd followed dilgently and I feel a lot stronger. So I'm trying to walk a few times a week and gradually increase how many kilometres I do so that I can do some proper hiking again one day, which would chuff Jamie no end.

I've been tracking my walks on Strava - I know I should probably use a Hive app but I share this with my husband and it motivates me a little more. This walk was only 3 kilometres - but in the rest of the day's activities, with shopping, the nursery, voting in the Federal election, and a short surf, it was about all I could manage.

Yes, Australia has compulsory voting, unless you can avoid being on the electoral roll. We don't mind it - honestly if you don't want to vote because you don't believe in the system, you can draw a big penis on the ballot paper if you like, exercising your freedom of choice.

I like this walk - it takes you along some dirt tracks, sand tracks, a board walk, and there's a few stairs you can run up and down if you fancy. It's just the right length if you're feeling tired and you can check the surf on the way if you like. If you look into the distance in this shot you'll see the Winki Pop headland, next to Bells Beach.

It's also nice to bump into people I know on this walk and have a chat. I often invite Mum as well as she's trying to walk more again after being a bit house locked with grief. Dad used to walk it as well, so sometimes I walk with his ghost.

I didn't take any more pictures yesterday, but you can see how different it looks when the blue sky is out and the ocean is offshore.

Hopefully by the time I write my next Wednesday walk, it'll be a 7 km walk - that's the aim anyway. I'm determined to increase my walking fitness again.

I can hear the ocean waves as I imagine myself walking along the trail. It's good for your mom to enjoy walking around the area too. The color of the sky does affect the beauty of the whole place.

Yes, it's certainly enviable. Walking is already a rejuvenating activity in itself, but doing it in such a setting is even more so. I read in a magazine that a monk had been granted permission to take long silent walks with prisoners, and that their reintegration rate was significantly higher than that of those who didn’t take part in the walks.

Oh man if I was in prison I'd kill for a long walk!!!! Ironically...

Glad your hip is improving hope it keeps gettign better
What a beautiful place to walk

Thanks for joining the Wednesday walk
Have a great day

Thanks! Hope you are doing well mate x

Happy Wednesday walk.. Very nice place

I'm very happy to hear you are getting better. I can't bear to think of you unable to do all those things you love. xo

Aw thanks my friend ❤️

That's fantastic progress! It's so inspiring to see you getting your walking fitness back on track. I love the views with the beaches it was stunning. Wishing you all the best in reaching your 7km goal!

What a pretty place for a walk! Love this area! 😍

I enjoy walking more when I don't always go to the same place, adding some dirt paths and stairs makes it seem less of a routine and gives you a fresh burst of energy and breaks up the routine, besides seen my numbers go up on my smartwatch is a kind of gamification and fun to it, I end up doing more when someone else is with me if not I get bored, setting a distance goal is good but you have to make sure it's achievable when you have other things to do during the day, having different routes or just seeing something new makes it easier to stick with it and not get bored, that route you took looks more than 2.93 KM 😆

I'd really like a fitness watch! I agree gamification makes it more interesting. I love how people map out routes that turn into shapes like this one someone did recently!

Im glad that you enjoyed walking,it is nice to have a walk in this kind of view.

I am sorry to hear that you have been having hip problems. I have not been very good with keeping up with everyone on here, life for me is very full these days. Having two teenagers now as well.
I miss the ocean, I do wish I lived closer, this seems like a lovely walk, one I would really enjoy.
Sending you love xxx

It's okay, I'm a lot better now. Yeah I get it, I'm struggling to keep up too. Two teenagers, eh, that makes you really really old haha! I can't afford to live right by the sea so I'm making our place a forest paradise instead, well almost. If i can make it as beautiful as I can and can afford I can handle not living by the ocean.
