I've had success this week with selling some mushroom buckets. After the disaster of last time, where half didn't pick up and I had friends not paying without some hassle, I put the word out on Facebook in a different way. The idea is to break even and pay for the mushroom spawn so essentially I am getting my own mushrooms for FREE as well as paying for the next lot.
I am doing a grow today of BLUE PEARL oyster mushrooms. I will have TWO spare buckets if you would like to purchase one. $25, bank deposit by end of day please (DM for details) and can deliver locally. I am also doing some more pinks but in a week or so if you'd like to pre order. I am only doing very limited buckets for Winchelsea residents who might be interested. The blue pictured aren't mine.
Please let me know if you would like me to message you when I am doing the pinks or some butterscotch ones. Deposit must be made before I grow as I have had some no shows - not too bad because I end up with lots of yummy mushrooms to eat, but would prefer security of knowing that someone will pick up.
They are easy to grow - out of direct sunlight (enough light to read by) and spray with a bottle of cooled boiled water when you walk past. I keep mine next to the kettle on a tray to catch excess water, and spray when I make a cuppa tea - usually twice a day. Kids adore watching them grow. You will get more than one yield from the bucket too. They are SUCH a delight. These are cheaper than the mushroom boxes you buy as I am not interested in making massive profits and clearly I'm only doing it locally and for my own health too - that extra protein and beta glucans is SO good for you. And goodness it's good to know your mushrooms haven't travelled far - light on the earth!
I'm mainly doing this for the love of mushrooms - it's truly delightful to watch them grow and end up with them on your toast!
Funny thing was, I had seven buckets, and sold all seven. There's something about missing out that really makes people jump! I only had one woman say 'ill give you cash on pick up' and I just ignored her. Had she said again, I would have said they were all gone as I prioritized those who paid upfront.
So today I'm doing a grow of pinks, hoping the weather will stay warm enough for them. After that it'll be the butterscotch oysters.
In other news, I decided to make an Instagram account for my mushroom antics. It'll be half AI art and half mushrooms I spot in the wild, with a little bit of poetry, quotes and writing thrown in. If you'd like to follow me, my account is @myco_whispers
Of course, as soon as I did this, Midjourney was down. I'm itching to create more mushroom 'art'. Yeah I know that's up for debate.
Still, those of us that can't draw need to bring our imagination to life somehow! I like the idea of it being multimedia, my photos, writing and AI.
I have also decided to do a book on mushrooms, a bit of a squirrel affair, alternating between essays, stories, poetry, recipes, and how to grow oyster mushrooms.
If anyone has any tips with formatting a book of this kind and how to self publish I would appreciate it!!

Im glad sales of this batch did well for you, I have never eaten toasted mushrooms or the type of mushrooms you talk about, mushrooms down here is not so common but I do like them, I would like to start growing food inside home now that this year Im going to be more solvent would like to invest to grow vegetables, your post intrigue me to try other mushrooms ✌️
If I can inspire people to try more mushrooms, I'm a happy woman.
