Tres temporadas después, coincidiendo con el lanzamiento de esta última el 4 de julio de 2019, el estudio independiente BonusXP (con sede en Nuevo Hampshire, EEUU) decidió renovar la licencia del título para desarrollar un videojuego que mezclará la estructura argumental de las antiguas dos temporadas, con un nuevo arco histórico. Así surge la tercera entrega del juego. — En el pasado el estudio ya había lanzado un titulo basado únicamente en la primera temporada, y luego experimento con la realidad virtual en la segunda... La razón?
Netflix, desde hace bastante tiempo, ha buscado la manera correcta de fusionar las series más vistas de su catálogo digital con la industria de los videojuegos. Y Parece haberlo logrado con Stranger Things 3: The Game...

ROBOTS malvados en todos lados
SpongeBob SquarePants: Rehydrated tiene la misma estructura argumental que el videojuego original de 2003:
Como es habitual en varios capítulos de la serie, Plankton, dueño del restaurante Chum Bucket y rival de Don Cangrejo, crea un elaborado plan (que involucra un ejército de robots) para robar finalmente la fórmula secreta de las cangreburgers. Pero, como en cualquier comedia negra, las expectativas de lo que sería un buen plan se ven amenazadas cuando el autótrofo pierde el control de los autómatas metálicos; desatando el desastre en todo el océano.
Es así como la responsabilidad de salvar Fondo de Bikini, como siempre, recae en Bob Esponja y sus amigos; que tendrán el deber de liberar la ciudad y localizaciones de estos malvados robots. — Una historia simple, pero congruente con la narrativa del show.
Evil ROBOTS everywhere
SpongeBob SquarePants: Rehydrated has the same story structure as the original 2003 video game:
As is customary in various episodes of the series, Plankton, owner of the Chum Bucket restaurant and Mr. Krabs rival, devises an elaborate plan (involving an army of robots) to finally steal the secret formula for krabby patty. But, as in all black comedy, the expectations of what a good plan would be are threatened when the autotroph loses control of the metallic automata; unleashing disaster across the ocean.
This is how the responsibility to save Bikini Bottom, as always, falls on SpongeBob and his friends; They will have the duty to liberate the city and places from these evil robots. — A simple story, but consistent with the narrative of the show.
Tres PERSONAJES jugables
SpongeBob SquarePants: Rehydrated es un videojuego de plataformas 3D con mecánicas antiguas, en donde el jugador tendrá la posibilidad de saltar, correr, golpear enemigos, deslizarse entre zonas adyacentes y explorar los distintos escenarios (propios de la serie) en búsqueda de coleccionables y espátulas (llaves); ya que será la única forma en la que se podrá avanzar hacia otros niveles. — Una jugabilidad del pasado que no experimenta un desface generacional.
Al igual que en la versión de 2003, el juego cuenta con 3 personajes jugables, cada uno con habilidades especiales necesarias en determinadas circunstancias. Arenita la ardilla, por su condición de mamífero terrestre, es un personaje ligeramente ágil, con un laso útil para columpiarse por distintos aros del mapa; Patricio Estrella, siendo tosco y gordo, es el más fuerte del grupo (a nivel muscular); y finalmente Bob Esponja, el protagonista homónimo, tiene la mayor cantidad de habilidades y experiencia en ataques programados. — Una variedad modesta, pero funcional.
Como en cualquier remasterización actual, también existen novedades que ayudan a que la experiencia de juego sea mucho más placentera; como los deslizamientos y los jefes finales — estos últimos, diseñados con un modelado fiel a la contextura de los enemigos de la serie original.
SpongeBob SquarePants: Rehydrated es competente en material de diseños de niveles. — Con un resultado que, a pesar de copiar mecánicas y estructuras de misiones, se siente muy variado...
Three playable CHARACTERS
SpongeBob SquarePants: Rehydrated is a 3D platform video game with old mechanics, where the player will have the possibility to jump, run, hit enemies, slide between adjacent areas and explore the different scenarios (typical of the series) in search of collectibles and spatulas (keys); since it will be the only way in which you can advance to other levels. — A gameplay from the past that doesn't experience a generation gap.
As in the 2003 version, the game has 3 playable characters, each with special abilities required under certain circumstances. Sandy Cheeks, due to its condition as a terrestrial mammal, is a somewhat agile character, with a useful rope to swing through different rings on the map; Patrick Star, tough and fat, is the strongest of the group (at the muscular level); and finally SpongeBob, the eponymous protagonist, has the greatest amount of skills and experience in programmed attacks. — A modest variety, but functional.
As with any current remastering, there are also new features that help make the gaming experience that much more enjoyable; like the landslides and the final bosses — the latter, designed with a modeling faithful to the texture of the enemies of the original series.
SpongeBob SquarePants: Rehydrated is proficient in level design. — With a result that, despite copying the mechanics and structures of the mission, feels very varied...
Apartado AUDIOVISUAL rehidratado
Bob esponja volvió junto a sus amigos con un apartado visual triunfador. Los modelados de los personajes tienen un resultado moderno, el mapeado de los escenarios es más vistoso, las animaciones ahora son más dinámicas, los gestos del carismático pantalones cuadrados son más reconocibles, los colores más vivos, y finalmente las plataformas gozan de una composición llena de detalle — Purple Lamp Studios supo capturar correctamente la esencia de la caricatura.
Uno de los pequeños detalles que pudieron haber mejorado fue la sobresaturación de los colores...
En cuanto a la banda sonora, tiene voces originales en ingles con subtítulos en español, doblaje en castellano, efectos de sonidos que simulan la profundidad oceánica y finalmente el soundtrack original del show. — Un detalle que todos los amantes de la serie de Nickelodeon disfrutarán...
A rehydrated AUDIOVISUAL section
SpongeBob returned from the hands of his friends with successful graphics. The modeling of the characters has a modern result, the mapping of the scenarios is more colorful, the animations are now more dynamic, the gestures of the charismatic square pants are more recognizable, the colors more vivid, and finally the platforms enjoy a composition. with more details — Purple Lamp Studios was able to correctly capture the essence of the cartoon.
One of the small details that could have improved was the oversaturation of the colors...
As for the soundtrack, it has original voices in English with Spanish subtitles, Spanish dubbing, sound effects that simulate the depth of the ocean and finally the original music of the show. — A detail that all lovers of the Nickelodeon series will enjoy...
CONCLUSIÓN
SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom nunca fue, ni en el pasado ni en el presente, un juego de plataformas excepcional (sus ideas son derivadas y genéricas). No obstante, con esta nueva versión, los desarrolladores supieron aprovechar el origen de Bob Esponja, y gracias a ello lograron convertir una remasterización ordinaria en una propuesta que cumple con lo que ofrece: diversión sin profundidad narrativa o jugable.
Así que si desean revivir un clásico de la infancia, este juego es una opción modestamente decente...
CONCLUSION
SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom was never, in the past or present, an exceptional platformer (its ideas are derivative and generic). However, with this new version, the developers knew how to take advantage of the origin of SpongeBob SquarePants, and thanks to this they managed to turn an ordinary remastering into a proposal that meets what it offers: fun without narrative or playable depth.
So if you want to relive a childhood classic, this game is a modestly decent option...
