RE: Tax and fuel

in Finance and Economy2 months ago

Oof. And there I was feeling a sting when me refuelling on Tuesday (usually high 60s) was a bit over $90 when I last refuelled.

J's parents went up north recently for some reason and are now trapped up there as I'm pretty sure their 4wd uses diesel and it's $4/L over there and the servos are limiting everyone to $50 worth of fuel and they might get to the next town on that maybe.

Sort:

This is probably a familiar story and I only just commented on this post to someone else that a lot of travellers (grey nomads) are staying put instead of moving just to conserve money.

Diesel and petrol are always more costly in the outback and remote areas and I can only imagine what it's like now. $50 of fuel gets me pretty much nowhere in my truck and for people like you mention, road trippers, they're usually towing which means even less distance per tank due to increased fuel use.

At the moment I'm filling my tanks every time it gets close to quarter used to mitigate the risk/chance of getting caught out by rationing.

I get the feeling we've got a 2020 situation brewing up.

As inconvenient as it is staying put is probably the fiscally intelligent and responsible and socially responsible thing to do I guess and definitely infinitely better than panic buying.

Ergh not again >_<

I know right? The bloody toilet paper fuckassery all over again. Could you imagine? I'm not sure if it's heading that way but I'd not be surprised.

I just went to the supermarket for a basic shop of staple items. $409 at Woolworths. I said to the checkout dude, "there goes a tank of diesel."

He thought it was funny...I didn't.

Maybe it was one of those laughs where it's funny because it's true or one of those laughs where it's not funny but if you don't laugh you'll cry.
