2018 PCYC regionals

in #gymnastics8 years ago

starring @pixietrix and @gorc in the order that they were done in (I think XD). Regionals was held over three weekends at our club.

WAG5 = Women's Artistic Gymnastics level 5
MAG3 = Men's Artistic Gymnastics level 3

Mostly unrelated, dtube uploader looks a lot nicer than I remember it. Still took a million years to upload though but I'll forgive that ;D

Is this their first comp in this level?
Being used to the women's side of gymnastics, I always find the men's kind of funny, because it's a show of strength more than the performance.

That seemed like a short run to the vault. I'm amazed pixie got the energy to get over from it. I know Izzy wouldn't have! XD
It's interesting to see the differences to the base routines compared to here. Like a crossover from level 4 to 5. Or is that because she's still transitioning?

We only do regionals and states so yes technically it was the first comp in this level :) I think PCYC levels are one level lower than Gymnastics WA levels (which would probably be similar to other states I guess?) so if we were doing GWA she'd probably be in level 4.

Both my kids do pretty short vault runs. Every time I watch gorc gangling down the run appearing to move in slow motion I never know how he's ever going to get over but then he does XD All of us can generate a lot of energy in a short space of time so I guess that helps :D

I reckon the boys should totally dance in their floor routines XD

Lol! Gorc sounds like Izzy! Even her coaches say she does everything in slow motion. I always thought she would land on her head in saults, but she somehow always made it over. Its those long skinny legs, isn't it? She has sped up a bit over the last year or so, as she's getting onto harder skills. I don't think she'd make the skills if she hadn't. She still looks slow next to the little gymnasts though.

Now you mention it, WA might be a bit ahead in their levels, skill wise, compared to SA. We had two girls come from there who had started level 4 and 6 in WA, but we're put into 5 and 7 here and both still did well. Mind you, SA is a bit of a back water. Anybody who is any good ends up moving to anther state to get anywhere!

If she's as twiggy as my kids then legs that go on forever would definitely make up at least half the body weight right, so make sense that long skinny legs gets them over ;D

There was a couple of gymnastics movies that were made in Adelaide that pixie watched on Netflix, their skills looked all right XD

Let me guess, A Second Chance and Raising the Bar? The second one actually had some of the girls from our gym club (not Izzy, she's not comfortable with stardom, lol). Our two best gymnasts body doubled. Savannah Crompton and Kendall Krooglik. Sav's actually representing Australia for the new Zealand comp this year at level 10. It's unusual for SA to get a gymnast that far, but I guess it does happen! ;) She'll retire after that, they both will this year, so we'll be back to having very little again. Apart from the Gym Jets, nowhere here trains the hours that some of the clubs in other states do.

Yes, it must be those legs! XD

Maybe? I don't remember XD I did watch parts of them with her enough to recognise that they were separate movies (and we were staring at one of the characters going pretty sure that actor was also in the other movie XD) and that was pretty much it for me.

I think our gym doesn't train as long as the other PCYC that does boys. Not sure where they would fit any more classes anyway given the number of classes there are already XD

You don't remember! The finest entertainment Adelaide has to offer? Lol!
I've only seen the second one, Raising the Bar and I'm told the first was worse. XD I'm sure it's a great film for gymnastics youngsters, but not really quality adult entertainment. My girls were a bit old for it when we saw it and the only thing really holding their attention was spotting familiar faces and gym club uniforms. At least one rhythmic club joined in on the action. I've also remembered that Larissa Miller was body double for the lead role (the American). I didn't even know who she was at the time they were filming. I was trying to figure out why we might want her signature. I think Izzy was wondering the same. XD

At level 7-10 State comps this year, Chris Remkes was was signing photos and having pictures taken with people. This little girl came back to the queue with her signed photo and asked her mum who he was. Mum explained and she didn't seem any more impressed. The photo ended up being dropped on the floor at some point. Then Izzy asks me why people want a photo with him and marveled at how tiny he was. His Australia t-shirt was so long it was like a dress on him, poor chap!

Nice! Congrats to both kids! I was viewing without any sound, so I don't know if there's a difference, but I'm just so happy that they finally got what they've been working so hard for. Congrats on qualifying! Oh, and @gorc's hairstyle really suits him!

Arm and upper body strength are my two glaring weaknesses, heck I couldn't do one pull up to save my life, so know that I was grinning from ear to ear when I was watching the kids nail the events!

Thanks :D

You weren't missing anything but people clapping and cheering with no sound :) Oh and the music for pixie's floor routine which would only have been somewhat important if you were scoring ;D

Naww ^_^ lol yeh upper body strength is my critical weakness too XD

Does that mean my future kids would be able to walk on their hands as well??

Sure if they felt that way inclined XD

My goodness! I didnt realise they did everything! I got out of all the gym classes I could in high school cos I'm just so unco.

You kids are graceful gazelles. @pixietrix especially looked like she was floating.

Well done @pixietrix & @gorc!

Gymnastics is awesome for coordination! Looking at gorc now would you believe me if I told you that when he started he was an unco little spider monkey and I literally had to bite back laughter watching him because he was just so long and gangly and looked like an unco spider doing pullarounds over the bar? :D It's been great for cub's coordination as well, it's taken him longer than the other two (I think the adhd/autism thing is affecting things here) but he's finally getting there too.

I have told pixie that she's really doing things right as it looks like she floats sometimes, she has told me in no uncertain terms that she doesn't feel like she's floating XD

Thanks ^_^
