Cut your cloth according to the materials available for you
This quote is common in the neighborhood I grew up and it means that one should try to prioritize their spendings without allowing external pressures to becloud their sense of judgement. Do not allow what you cannot afford at the moment to cause you unnecessary pressures. That you cannot afford those things at the present does not explicitly exclude you from affording them in the nearest future.

Some people try to feel "belonged" or just to show off as a way to impress people and they end up living above their means and putting strain and stress on their pocket. Well, just to let you know: if in the process of trying to impress people with unnormal and riotous spendings and you become broke, they may not come to your aid, so you need to try to live and spend within your means.
If you spend everything the comes into your hand without making contingency plans for unforseen situations, then you are already at risk. At each stage of your life, you need to know what you can afford and what you cannot.
You must not wear designer outfits if you cannot afford them. The ones you have, try to keep them neat and wear them with pride. Most times, people do not know the worth of the cloths you are wearing - you are the only one beating yourself up. Whatever opinion people want to form about you for being unable to afford a particular item at the moment should not put pressure on you. Even them too cannot afford everything that needs to be afforded, so why should they put you under undue pressure?
Something you should hold on to is: happiness is not hinged on the kind of designer dresses you wear. You will be surprised to know that there are some people that are very sad even on designer clothes and some other persons will be happy with the unbranded clothes they have. Well, this is because happiness primarily proceeds from the heart.
If you travel to your destination in an airplane, those that sat in economy class and those that sat in first class will all land the same time. Once you alight from the airplane, no one will know the class you flew. I am not saying that enjoying life is not good, what I am saying is that the enjoyment should be tailored within your means and not at the expense of your future.

If you look at what you have now and compare them to what you had about 10 years ago, you will agree with me that you already have most of what you dreamt about. Take this instance: Many people dreamt to afford a mobile phone when it was first launched some years ago. Now, owning a mobile phone is not considered a luxury again. You see, you can now afford what was considered a luxury in the time past and that is what matters. Imagine if you had beaten yourself over for a mobile phone, how will you feel now?
