Growing A Business From Start - Part 2

in Project HOPE4 years ago

Having a brilliant business idea does not automatically correlate to having success in business. There are some "how-tos" and processes to grow a sustainable business. The keyword here is "sustainable", because the success of a business is basically measured on it's sustenance over a period of time. You would agree with me that running a business for just a small time frame and going off is not regarded as success.

A few days ago, we took the first part of the tips to growing a successful business. We have established the fact that the success of any business principally hinges around the customer. This is why you should not only be concerned about getting new customers but also retaining the ones you already have. Here, we will look at some more tips to get handy with in order the have a successful business.

1. Make a list of what has worked for others and apply the same principle

There is a popular phrase that emphasizes the fact that "when you follow the steps that others did, you will hope to achieve the same result as they did". The truth is, the business you want to start, there are people that are already succeeding in it. It will not be a bad idea to acquire their own experiences too. This is where "apprenticeship" comes into place. Lacking knowledge of the business you are venturing into will only make the journey farther.

There is always what is called "trade secret" which can be communicated to you to make your success quicker. Believe me, the strategies that took someone years to acquire can be communicated to you in fewer years or even months. This why you need to go after relevant knowledge. Go to seminars. If need be, enrol for masterclasses. You need to invest time and resources to acquire relevant knowledge about operating a business. In all sincerity, how many materials (books, journals etc) of business gurus have you read? Running a successful business has principles.

To excel in business, you need to leverage on the help of others. Even in other fields for example, a pilot must be trained by another pilot to fly. A doctor must be trained by doctors. The lists goes on. So how do you expect to become a successful business person without passing through someone that has made it far? Think about this. You must not necessarily copy their approach verbatim but you can draw inspiration from what they did.

2. Learn to give back to the society

I remember a particular brand of product in this part of the world. Literally no one heard about them until they volunteered to support the course of fighting the pandemic and now they have become a household name. Most times, being involved in societal or community event will naturally help to advertise your business brand because people will tend to see it more often and it will start forming mental images in the minds of your potential customers.

Whatever opportunity you have to promote your your brand or business, try to utilize it. Not only will it connect you to potential customers but it will raise your profile as a business. Always remember that many others are always willing to take advantage of the very opportunity you miss. Most times, you need to take certain risks to secure milestone achievement. One of the risks is to be willing to grasp opportunities as they come.

Peace on y'all

hi @samminator,
being a successful businessman is not easy thing because you have to follow many things.

And you have shared such an useful ideas. keep sharing friend !!!!!

Exactly, the journey is never easy but when the principles are applied, they will be worth the efforts at the end.
Thanks for coming around

I really think a lot of people have forgotten the importance of learning from other talk more applying what they learnt.
A lot of people just want to rush into business and expect to be successful immediately.
It's not rocket science. Yes! Not everything that worked for others will work for you, but the ones that relate to you should.
And applying those similar ideas that led others to success will lead you to yours

Thanks a lot buddy for this awesome comment. Yeah, before going into business, one should at least gather relevant knowledge from people that already have experience in that business. This will make it a whole lot easier instead of just assuming to know it.

Thanks buddy

I remember starting a business then and it wasn't going as planned. Not until I need to sit down and look at those already successful in it and try to learn one or two tips or strategy from it

This is exactly the right thing to do. Some of the challenges people face in business, other people have faced similar challenges and succeeded. What to do is to know how they did theirs and apply the same principle to overcome too.
Thanks for the comment buddy

Planning and honesty is the core things to successful in business!

Exactly, these two should work hand-in-hand for business to succeed

True! In venturing business there's always risk involved but that what it takes to get through the next level of success. Just don't stop even if you fail, keep doing until you make it right.

Continuity is needed to see a business succeed. Just like you commented "don't stop even if you fail".
Thanks for the nice comment

@samminator first of all very solid read. Yes I agree with you we can make little changes in what is working for the business and we are good to go to launch the business and have successfully.

Yes buddy, that's the idea - to get knowledge and experience of what has worked for others and apply the same principle.
Thanks busdy
